@Mrs. Pen: I've been using your recipe since it posted on the blog and love it! My toddler asks for it on a regular basis as well. :)

I usually do 1 banana, 1 big handful of baby spinach, 1 spoonful of powdered peanut butter, 1 spoonful of chia seeds, a few ice cubes, and some almond coconut milk. I also add frozen berries sometimes, but I prefer it without because of the seeds.

I realize this thread is super old, but I just started making green smoothies. DH got me a Ninja blender for Christmas.

@regberadaisy: We buy frozen fruit. You can get better variety in the winter.

I also love to add cranberries to smoothies - they really mask the taste of kale.

4 oz. plain greek yogurt, half a banana, 1 tbsp. chia seeds, 2 cups spinach, and 1 cup frozen fruit - whatever we have around. Right now we have a berry mix, strawberries, peaches, and blueberries.

DH adds protein powder, but I don't.

Ooh I need to try Greek yogurt instead of milk. I hate eating greek yogurt and my smoothies are not satisfying enough.. I get if i substitute that I'll be able to actually drink my breakfast and make it mostly to lunch without another big meal!

@hergreenapples, mmmm i'll try that with the avocado. I like to eat my yogurt; i'm not sure I'd want to drink it. I like greek yogurt+fruit too much! I just figure I'm a freak if I'm eating 35 grams of protein in one sitting and 3 hours later I'm hungry..:)

I make them every day :)

My favorite is:
1 cup coconut milk
1/2-1 cup of spinach (to start you might want to try a little less and work your way up. It is an acquired taste)
1 banana
1/3 cup of frozen mango
1/3 cup of frozen pineapple
and just enough water (or more coconut milk) to make it less sludgy. This one is particularly sweet and is kind of "pina colada"! It's great to start with.

@blackbird: I found I tended to be hungry a few hours later too. So I started adding full-fat Greek yogurt and, occasionally, half an avocado as well, which really seems to help with satiety.

I've been on the green monster bandwagon for years now and I love it as a quick and very palatable breakfast (or sometimes lunch). I used to be big on the peanut butter/banana combo, but my current favourite is:

-unsweetened vanilla almond milk
-splash of OJ
-1 frozen banana
-a good size dollop of plain Greek yogurt (I get the 9% fat kind)
-a scoop of vanilla protein powder
-mixed frozen berries
-top the blender up to the top with baby spinach

Usually I make enough for two tall smoothies - so I have my breakfast premade for the next morning.

Maybe a handful? I just kind of toss it in there on top of everything.

One thing I did when I had an extra half hour was I bagged up a lot of smoothie packs. So i peeled ripe bananas and portioned out fruit and spinach into ziploc baggies. So all i have to do is dump it into the blender, add milk, add protein powder, and let it go. Since the fruit is frozen, I don't even need ice. Sometimes it can take awhile in the morning if you're scooping fruit from 3 different baggies and peeling bananas and getting spinach out. A bowl of cereal is faster, but these are healthier and I pour them into a big drink container so I can take them as I run out the door.

Granted, I'm still hungry a few hours later, but I drink one at like, 6 or 630am, so I need to eat again by 9 or 930 since lunch isn't until noon. Without protein powder, it's just a lot of fruit carbs.

Mine is simple too: whole milk, water, 2 TB peanut butter, 1 banana, 2 huge handfuls of spinach (you can't taste it), and a bunch of frozen blueberries and strawberries. Tastes like all fruit but has fat, protein, and veggies!

I'm trying to get on a bit of a health kick to shift the baby weight and thought I might try some green smoothies but I figured that they look pretty gross so I should probably use a tried and tested recipe not just try my own :) anyone have any good recipes to share? I don't have a juicer but I do have a blender.
