@Mrs. Pen: I never got to go to a summer camp , but I always wanted too and watched Parent Trap repetitively!

Definitely having some resisting moments from my pre-teen, not looking forward to teen years. Oh boy!

@StbHisMrs: yeah my coworker's daughter is 14 or 15 and same thing - doesn't trust her enough to let her stay home FT all summer. And although she could send her to her grandmother's, the teen would definitely resist.

She told me that although the summer-long camps are $$, if you figure cost of room and board for a teen plus all the activities included, it's not that much. I think most I saw ranged from 2k-4k. Definitely no small amount! I wonder how many teens would want to do something like that? I always think about the parent trap and I remember how fun it looked and I wanted to go!

Day camp at a school in the area; each week has a theme and corresponding field trip. Last year for art they went to the Getty Museum, science was at the Discovery Science Center, sports week was an Angels game, etc.

Charlie will be going to camp with his best friend and lots of his school friends will probably be there as well. He goes to the pool for lessons once a week, beach once a week, sports in the park once a week, and other fun adventures like the museum!

@Mrs. Pen: I'm in the same spot as your friend, except that is "old" enough to stay home, I just don't trust him enough for the whole summer! He'll be spending most of his days at Grandma and Grandpa's place (lots to do on a vineyard/farm) but they're selling and moving to the beach too. Those summer long camps are mega $$$!!

@looch: cool. I have heard good things about the nature center camps, but my DD isn't a nature fan! Hope he has fun!

@HLK208: booo! I was surprised that they had a full day camp for 4 year olds! I almost didn't check as I assumed that they didn't for some reason.

@blackbird: lol, me too!

@StbHisMrs: fun!

@Mrs. Pen: The Y does so many different camps once they are 5+? 6+? Hmmmm, during that awkward age you speak of, I went to summer school. It still didn't cover the entire summer, though.

@Andrea: once J is school-age - the YMCA day camp will be a consideration of mine! they do field trips to the library and museums, have a swimming pool and outdoor splash pad in addition to gym time... it looks so fun! I know our school district has a similar program that incorporates a bit of learning too.

Once he's that age, I may also incorporate a day at grandma and grandpa's house and maybe a day with his cousins. It's still a few years away though.

I think the hardest part will be that awkward age where they're too old for daycare/programming, but too young to stay home all day, all summer... one of my coworkers is dealing with that right now, and is actually having to leave work cause she's not sure what else to do other than one of those summer long camps for tweens/teens.

He'll be finishing up t-ball when summer rolls around, then we'll do swim lessons and a zoo camp...if I wasn't due smack dab in the middle of summer, I would probably sign him up for more activities.

My son will be in a camp at our local nature center when the time comes during the proper school year, but since our day care is closing, he's going this June!

It's day camp with themed weeks, I was so excited to find it, I wanted to go, lol.

DD has her first year of camp at the Y. She will be swimming every day and I am excited for her! They also do playground time, music, arts and crafts, etc.
