I've had a few sips of wine/beer (usually it's the hubs' that I'm sampling) throughout my pregnancy since the 2nd trimester. I haven't given in and had a half glass yet, but I'm pretty sure I will in the next 6 weeks!

*shrugs* I don't see anything wrong with some wine every now and then. Alas, DH is being very paranoid about it and won't even let me kiss him if he's drinking a beer, haha!

There were some days during the first trimester where I felt like crap and would have loved to unwind by sipping on a glass of wine. The cheapo sweet stuff would have been great on my birthday or our one year anniversary. :\

I had an occasional half glass of wine. I read many articles of primary scientific literature and felt very comfortable that there was no risk being taken.

I have had 4 N/A beers throughout my pregnancy (at different times) and I tend to feel guilty about those. I just don't think I am one to have actual alcohol and feel okay with it. I don't really miss it all that much, and if I feel the need for a drink I will order an O'Douls. I'm okay with holding out another 19 or so weeks!

I know a lot of people do. But for me alcohol during pregnancy in any quantity is a big no no.

@artbee: ditto. I was super anal about what I did not touch during pregnancy. But I wanted to be able to say I did everything I could to ensure a healthy baby. I wanted No what ifs.

I'm a sipper. If my husband's having a glass, I'll have a sip or two of his, but I have yet to pour a glass for myself. Not a huge sacrifice, because although we drank wine frequently before I got pregnant, I was always good with a half a glass anyway.

Nope - and no plans to, either. That being said, I don't hesitate to drink a diet coke or two (it helps with migraines), and I have eaten soft-serve ice cream and pepperoni. So I'm definitely not *perfect,* but its just a choice I have made that I evaluate with the totality of all of the other choices I have made.

I didn't drink anything during the first tri but from second on, I've had the odd glass of red wine here and there - probably about 8 glasses total throughout pregnancy. At nearly 37 weeks now, I'd definitely be having some if it didn't cause such bad heartburn!!! :-(

I think it's a personal choice and not up to anyone else to judge. I've worked with kids with disabilities (including FAS) for a long time and done an awful lot of research on the subject. Basically there is absolutely zero credible evidence to suggest that mild alcohol consumption will have adverse effects on a fetus - and by 'mild', most studies consider that 7 units per week or less.. I am fully confident in my decision that I am not causing any harm to my unborn child but I completely respect those who choose to avoid it.

For me I didn't have more than 1-2 sips my entire pregnancy.

I also do think there is a difference between just barely in the second tri(12-13 weeks) and well into a pregnancy (20 weeks +). I think once I could consistently feel movement that helped. Not there is ever a safe time but in my book there is a big difference between 12 an 20 weeks.

I was really careful about not drinking caffeine during my first pregnancy, but with #2 I'm not as strict. I've had coke, some Tazo tea, etc.

Would I do it personally? Not on your life. There's no concrete evidence that a small amount cannot cause FAS or other abnormalities and my baby is worth too much to gamble with. As long as other women are being extremely careful and having an open dialogue about their drinking with their care providers I don't see an issue with other people doing it however, just not for me.

I'm a HUGE wino and we had several winery trips already planned with friends and family when I found out I was pregnant. Baby has already been to 10 wineries! :) I have no problem with a half glass of wine every so often while pregnant and even talked to the owner at one of the wineries who told me she drank a little bit with all of her FIVE children.

However, while I was at the wineries, I decided I would have a sip of my husbands when the winery made a tempranillo (my favorite wine)--it ALL tasted like crap!

I have a sip or two when my husband gets wine now, but it still doesn't taste very good to me. I'm not going to drink something just to drink it.

I haven't had any alcohol while pregnant and I don't plan to. My doctor didn't give me a very long list of things to avoid, but this was one of them. From what I have read they don't really know what a "safe" amount would be so it's just better to play it safe and have none. I can wait! I try not to judge those who do, though (beer/wine) because I guess some doctors are ok with it. I really don't think they'd look down on you for asking!

I had a glass of wine here and there in my pregnancy. I really wasn't too concerned about it, but I never had more than a glass and it wasn't a common occurrence. And I never did it out in public. I think it's just a matter of personal preference. My mom said that back in "her day" they went out and had a celebratory beer after finding out she was pregnant. My baby girl is 4 days old now and so far she's perfect!

I'll preface by saying I wasn't a drinker pre-pregnancy, so have 0 desire to drink whether I'm knocked up or not. I don't judge anyone else who does - it's not my body/baby!

I will say though, I just read this book: http://www.amazon.com/Chocolate-Lovers-Have-Sweeter-Babies/dp/1439183341 (which was an awesome read! not prescriptive/preachy) and it talked about what you eat/drink flavoring the amniotic fluid and they could see the babies on sonograpms clenching their jaws/being uncomfortable when the mom drank or smoked because it made the fluid bitter. Sad!! Who knows what amount it was to cross over, I didn't look up the study they referenced, but gross nonetheless.

i didn't have any alcohol when pregnant with charlie and olive. when i was pregnant with olive, i did have o douls a couple of times. in fact i still drink it! i've had an occasional glass of wine or beer, but since i'm nursing, i abstain most of the time and stick to my odouls.

i think it's ok to drink a little, but i just couldn't do it while pregnant (and i was a total wino too before kids).

Thanks for weighing in, everyone!

We are going to a concert (Kenny Chesney & Tim McGraw-yay!) next Saturday and we always "tailgate" before concerts, ie booze and eat and people watch! I think I may try one of those non-alcoholic beers just to see how it makes me feel:)

My confession is that I was a total wino before pregnancy. I drank every single day, usually a couple of glasses. I also enjoyed a cold beer on a hot day often. Our struggles TTC made me never complain about having to give up anything frivolous like alcohol, because I am forever grateful. But I guess this new "safe" feeling is making my mind wonder about the possibilities.

I am too embarrassed to call my doctor and ask. I feel like they would look down on me for calling just to ask that, although I honestly have no idea where my dr stands on the issue.

I personally probably won't have any when I get pregnant because I hardly ever drink now. I heard doctors say that a glass of wine is fine every now and then. I do have a soft spot for Moscato dessert wine. I might cave and have a sip. I do love piña coladas but I'm fine with the virgin kind.

I've heard that if you're not drunk/intoxicated, then the baby isn't going to be "drunk" aka have any ill effects. I personally don't think there's anything wrong with a glass of wine here or there, or even every other week. For me, I just felt like "what's the point"--I don't crave it, and I'm not going to be be able to get any sort of buzz. So I've just been abstaining. I will probably have a glass of wine once in a while while breastfeeding though.

I actually thought I'd be the kind of woman who would be pretty relaxed about having a small glass of wine during pregnancy. But in the end I was a total nervous nellie while I was pregnant, and I never drank more than a tiny sip here or there. But I definitely don't judge others who decide to have the occasional glass of wine during pregnancy. If it makes you happy, then it's probably good for both you and baby!
