Food security - I garden for fun and I grew up on a farm. Most supermarkets only have a 3 day supply of food on hand at any given time. The supply chains are long and fragile. And that doesn't even touch the people in the US who are hungry because they're poor. </p> <p>2. Climate change - closely related to food security, actually. Climate change is going to cause massive droughts, extreme storms, and unpredictable growing seasons. It will be nearly impossible for agricultural systems to provide food for the number of people who need it. If we don't start working together against climate change now, the wet bulb temperatures are likely to make most of our current homes uninhabitable within the next 50 years.</p> <p>3. That would provide a safety net that the working poor could benefit from.
