I use them as burp cloths and 'aprons' for nursing bc LO pops off and my milk goes everywhere. I never used them except for that, who needs receiving blankets when you have Aden + Anais blankets! I didn't really have much excess of anything. He has a good amount of toys and I didn't buy even one of them!
