LO HAD to be bounced on a yoga ball. No rocking, swinging....only bouncing while swaddled and shushing loudly. This went on for 3 month. Exhausting. We had yoga balls on different floors in our house. My parents even bought one.

The heavy rainfall sound on the white noise app worked wonders. Also Bob Marley and Jack Johnson.

Good luck. It will get better!

@Mrs. Tricycle: it's the part where you realize all your work has been in vain.:(

Last night I put the bouncer in bed with me so I could hold his pacifier in...he was swaddled & the seat on vibrate. It worked. Then I put the bouncer in his room and walked away. Fun little 25 step process but it worked:)

@mrs. wagon: this is pretty much what we do every single night. The transfer to the RnP always makes me nervous - it's the trickiest part! :)

DD would let me rock her so I'd just lean back and close my eyes while doing it; although not fully asleep it helped me feel a litte more refreshed by the AM. DS would let me sit and bounce on the side of the bed, so I'd do the same thing with closing my eyes. I would keep them swaddled for middle of night feedings so that i didn't accidentally wake them up when swaddling.

@TurtleDoves: How old is your LO? If your child is still a newborn then its pretty normal they want to be held all the time. from 6-12 weeks on thats when they start allowing themselves to be soothed by other gear

@Mrs. Bee: i agree with the bouncing in a super dark room. We used our walk in closet! We also made sure to always be doing the 5 S's. What worked best for us with LMW was to rock her to sleep (she had to be ROCKED, not just swayed) then once she was almost deeply sleeping we'd transfer her to the rock n play. That way we could lay down and rock her with one hand. I'd rock her pretty violently until she was quiet. Then gently until I was sure she was asleep. Whenever she fussed I'd reach out and give it a push.

Time was the only thing that helped for us. Once he hit 4 months, he was so much more willing to be out down. It will get better.

The 5 S's as mentioned above! Or, swaddling and putting him in the swing -- he hated all swings except the My Little Snugabunny.

Happiest baby on the block was a godsend. The way to use the swing and swaddling. Car rides on really bad days.

@TurtleDoves: how old is your LO? That sounds a lot like DD. I don't have much advice either except to say that she eventually grew out of it. We started gradually putting her down for naps awake but drowsy. And once we had that, we started working on night time. Slooooooow process but now we're to a point where she won't sleep in our arms

the swaddle worked for us. how about bouncing on an exercise ball in a pitch black room (like a closet)?

the 5's? playing a super duper loud noise like the hair dryer or vacuum?

@mrskc: that's what I was thinking...stick him in the bouncy & stay close to him. I don't think he likes it when we walk away before he dozes off (even if we're in the same room).

Aw I'm sorry.. that can be rough. Our LO is the same way. My DH will walk him around the house until he falls asleep or I will rock him. Sorry don't have much advice for you.

one way that always works for me is side lying nursing him. We swaddle him but leave both his arms out while he nurses. He passes out and then my DH swaddles up his arms and moves him to his bouncy chair. Works most of the time for us. Another thing my DH will do is keep him swaddled in his bouncy chair and stick the paci in his mouth. Sometimes that will put him to sleep.

This kid just doesn't fall asleep unless he's held. It is super tiresome because he makes us stand, rock him, hum or sing until he dozes off!
We have a swing that swings in 2 directions, 3 inclines, vibrates, plays music and has 6 different speeds but, of course, LO wants nothing to do with it.
The bouncy seat is a no go...
The RnP is only used if he is already asleep when put into it
The moby & the BB carriers work only as long as he's in them but he wakes as soon as we lay him down
We have the white noise machines and swaddles and pacis...nothing works except us:/ that is super tiring at 4 in the AM! I can't prance around the house singing lullabies and bouncing a baby on my shoulder for 30mins every single 3h:'(

What does the trick for your LO?
