You could also register or just buy small sample sizes if they are available so you can try them out. I registered for and received lots of cute Burt's Bees and CA Baby stuff and my LO is super sensitive so we just use Cetaphil (gentle). I'm hoping she grows out of it because I love the way she smelled when I used the Burt's Bees stuff!

shampoo/body wash - j&j, baby magic and aveeno
sunscreen - aveeno continuous protection and california baby

one thing LO broke out to was california baby calendula.

@JessicaMcB: i registered at a store in Toronto, Ontario...but my shower will be in Montreal, Quebec, lol - so that's where most people will actually buy from. I just didn't see it online when i search "burt's bees" on toysrus.ca but i do on toysrus.com

anyway, what i did was remove the aveeno products from my registry as i currently have 50 items scanned and 24 people invited. so really, it's something i can just buy myself later when i decide what products to go with. I am sure i won't receive everything on my registry now as it is, so taking stuff off is actually a good thing. And if any guests buy products on their own, i will use them and buy what i want later. i am not strongly opposed to anything. just wanted to know what was ideal

We chose not to use J&J or Aveeno as they are both rated poorly by the cosmetic database.

We use Burt's Bees baby wash, coconut oil for the little girl's moisturizer, and Weleda products for eczema for M. and as a lotion for Lala.

You can find the California baby packs on sale sometimes, but to be honest, they are not my favorite!

We don't really use anything on Linus except Coconut Oil and occasionally Dr. Bronner's Soap. That's it. Coconut oil works for diaper rash, moisturising, massage, etc. I like that it's all natural and is great for my skin too,

@sorrycharlie: that sounds like a great deal! Lol, if only we had target in Canada! it's coming sometime early next year i believe....

maybe i will just tell a couple of my close friends what products i really want and see if they get it or pass the word around. at the same time, i have more than enough other items on my registry that it doesn't matter really if people buy bath products versus my other items. hmmm, maybe i will even remove the Aveeno products i scanned and see what deals i can find around here - i still have until november after all!

@PurpleUnicorn: right now at target, if you buy two burt's bees baby items you get a $5 gift card :) for a good size lotion, it's about 7.99 - so definitely more than J&J, but I think it smells delish ;) the "starter set" is about $20 and that's what we were gifted, it came with a small thing of oil, a small soap, a container of diaper ointment, and a large sized lotion and a large sized shampoo/body wash.

@JessicaMcB: @Coco Bee: i just checked again and no burt's bees at Babies R Us :( i guess it's in the Canadian stores they don't have it. i have to go through http://www.toysrus.ca. i know i have seen burt's bees products at walmart and other pharmacies, so I can always buy it on my own later. for now, i guess i will try out the aveeno. if no one gets it for me though, then perhaps i will go straight to the good stuff.

@sorrycharlie: thanks for doing that search! i am not too worried about causing cancer in my kid though, regardless of those articles. i just wanted to see what products people like and why. i was more concerned about the reviews i read where rashes were occurring.

i haven't looked at the prices of all the burt's baby products though, but am assuming it's pricey. i bought footcream for myself from them and it was like $15. so i will have to see if i can budget those products as well.

ETA - like the PPs, I registered at BRU too, and someone bought me it off registry :)

@PurpleUnicorn: I'm not sure :/ I did a quick google search, and it seems like it's in Canada, too, but I'd search more on it. The third article link here reads, "Johnson & Johnson's Baby Shampoo sold in the U.S., Canada, China, Indonesia and Australia still contains quaternium-15, but according to the product labels, it isn't in versions of the products sold in eight other countries: Denmark, Finland, Japan, the Netherlands, Norway, South Africa, Sweden and the U.K."

@PurpleUnicorn: Are you able to add Burts Bees to your registry online? Because I know the BRU we registered at had loads of Burts Bees and another all natural line I can't remember the name of that is not owned by J&J. That way, at least people know you wants Burts and might go find it for you elsewhere.

yeah, I had personal issues with J&J as well, and just a few months ago a whole batch of Aveeno products were recalled because something dangerous was in it... so I was turned off from it. I really wanted something gentle.

We use burts bee baby wash and have really liked it. We use California Baby for sunscreen because our sun is allergic to the Aveeno baby brand. I would highly recommend either.

I say if you want the higher end products, go ahead and register for them - you will probably get them! And if you don't want to pay for them after your shower, then just get the J&J products.

I got a set of Burt's Bees as a gift. I was leery of J&J after the big news thing about how they left potential cancer-causing chemicals in their products in the US, but were selling without those chemicals in other countries. I'll play it by ear what we'll buy after the Burt's Bees is used up.

hey all,

I've been doing some googling on baby products as I am currently setting up my baby registry and am hesitant to put Johnson & Johnson products on there. I am not completely against it, but i have read that some babies get rashes or parents were just happier with other products. If i get some J&J at my shower, i will use them up for sure (unless my baby starts getting a rash of course!). But i also have the option of registering for J&J Natural products or Aveeno Baby - all owned by J&J. Can anyone say what their preference is and why?

I also read that Burt's Bees and California Baby are really good, but pricier. So I may have to wait a bit before trying those.
