@regberadaisy: I don't know how much it usually is, but we buy it by the 4 can case from amazon mom (so free shipping and 20% off). I think it comes to below 20/ can.
@Nskillet: Gmo- genetically modified organisms. So no corn or soy, milk or wheat products with genes inserted by scientists or Monsanto. Some people think its not a big deal, but I say gmo crops haven't been around long enough for us to know the long term consequences. Certainly, they are not good for biodiversity and many strains of crops are dying out because they are hybridizing with gmo crops.

@Mrs. Bee: @Mrs. Jacks: How much is a regular sized can of EB? If I end up having to go to formula exclusively I'm thinking of giving EB a try. I know they have a soy formula as well.

First time, although I was BF we used Similac Advanced at first because that is what we got samples of from the hospital. However when it became apparent I was going to have to continue supplementing (poor pump production) we switched to Enfamil yellow can because my sister works in a doctor's office and that is what they have samples of. We were lucky enough not to have to buy any formula so I can't comment on where is the cheapest.

This time we're asking for Enfamil samples and if supplementing is necessary will continue to yes it, unless baby can't tolerate.

Hmmm... I thought I posted on this, but we use Earth's Best Formula. There are no GMO products added and it's all organic, so I felt really good about it and the babe tolerates it really well.

So...with our older DD we supplemented with Enfamil (the yellow kind, whatever it is!). When the doc at our breastfeeding clinic asked why we were using that, my only answer was "because it is the kind they had at the hospital." She then launched into a giant lecture on how Enfamil is evil and because they have a contract with the hospital to give them free formula, families are spending way too much money on it, blah blah blah. And then she said, use the cheapest, they are all the same.
Now, I do not believe that to be true, but I think that what she was getting at is that the cost for some fancy ones doesn't correlate to the benefits that babies might get from them. Or something. Whatever it was, it made an impression on me. So this time around, we are supplementing with President's Choice (Canadian Loblaws store-brand) yellow container. It is so, so, so much cheaper. And because I am able to breastfeed about 60% of her needs, I feel ok with cheaping out in this department. If she were 100% formula, I would probably have stuck with Enfamil...

That's interesting, @chrispygal. We were advised only to mix what we need because the formula would start to deteriorate after 30 minutes.

We are planning to use RTF formula, but not sure what type at this point. I'm not sure if this is true or not but I have a friend who is the guy that knows everything (he'd totally be my phone a friend on Who Wants to Be a Millionaire) and they always used RTF formula with his kids. He commented with the powder formulas that you need to mix them a certain amount of time before you feed them to LO, otherwise the proteins don't blend right. Again, I have no idea if this is true or not but its an interesting thought.

I try to use coupons with them. They are $22 each can, starting tomorrow, Publix has them now $5 off each can then add in the $3 off 2 cans can make a price go from $44 for two cans to $31 for two cans. I stock up at those prices.

@Sweet T: interesting. Did you see a noticeable difference when you feed him formula from powder versus ready to feed? We have RTF for when we're out and about and can't nurse. And I do notice that she doesn't whimper when we give her the RTF bottles. Interesting....

We use Similac Advance Ready-to-Feed and Similac Advance Concentrate. DS has bad gas issues and we can't use the powder without him being in pain. It's pitiful! Walmart is usually the cheapest place to buy it.

We started with Enfamil Gentleease at the hospital. Then bought some ready feed Enfamil Newborn. Thennnn because LO was so fussy and gassy we thought it was the formula and perhaps the milk because husband is lactose intolerant and my brother is as well. So history on both sides. So currently she is supplemented with Similac Soy Isomil. Honestly, she does not love the formula. She whimpers when she drinks formula. :(

Walmart has the best deal. I've yet to compared Amazon prices to them.
