They have a surprisingly long lifespan. My son (6, nearly 7) still uses them fairly regularly to build bigger stuff, even though most of his Lego time is spent on regular Legos now. </p> <p>And plain old wooden blocks are great too. The great thing with magnatiles is you can build out and just do 2D builds or build up and make towers/buildings.</p> <p>Duplos are better than mega bloks at this age. We don't currently own any megabucks, duplos, etc. so starting at square one. I want something he can play with now relatively easily, so I'm not sure if something like magnatiles are too advanced. Suggestions? </p>
