You might also consider a sterilizer and a bottle warmer and an insulated bag to transport milk.

It all depends on your baby. I liked to pump into the medela bottles, store in lansinoh bags, and my son preferred MAM bottles (he hated breastflow, born free, mimijumi, etc).

We were fortunate in that we only went for Dr. Brown's bottles and he was fine with those. We've also used the Medela one that came with the pump in a pinch, and that was fine too. Like a PP said, it's nice that the DB bottles attach to the Medela pump. (As do some other brands like Playtex I think.) But not the DB wide neck bottles obviously, which are the ones I really like. I'd say don't invest too much yet.

I got a box of 3 Tommee Tippee at my shower, and have 4 Avent (4-oz) that I've gotten for free from registering and buying at Motherhood Maternity. If she likes either of those, we'll buy more, but I also am waiting to see how it goes. I don't own a pump yet because I wanted to be sure my milk came in and that I could even use a pump before investing in one - also, I wanted to wait to see if I have any problems, because in that case insurance will cover the price (or some of) your pump.

Also, we did not buy bottles until she was here. We started with the cheapest option (medela) and found she took them fine so we purchased more cheap ones (Gerber).

I loved this Medela kit that I got in addition to what came with the pump.

I loved the extra bottles (especially the small ones) for pumping into at the early stages because I wasn't pumping much.

@jholler25: so far I have 3 kinds of bottles on my registry (dr browns, Tommee tippee, and avent). As for the pump, I'm planning on renting one from the hospital for the first few weeks--is that an option for you to do? Might give you a better idea of what kind you like?

I breastfeed straight from the boob, then pump for 15 minutes after each feeding. I pump into the Medela bottles that came with my Pump in Style, then pour the milk from the bottles into storage bags. I have Lansinoh bags, First Years, and some other brands, too (got some leftovers from friends and my registry). When I want to bottle feed, I pour the milk from the bags into my "real" bottles (I got an Avent infant starter kit and one Tommee Tippee bottle, LO seems ok with both).

I directly pump into Medela bottles. I ended up purchasing several additional bottles so I wouldn't have to constantly wash them. I purchased this set, which also came w/an extra set of breast shields: http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2409076.

If I'm not using the milk immediately, I'll store it in Lasinoh bags (usually in 4-oz increments). If I'm keeping the milk in the fridge for a bit, I'll keep it in the Medela bottle and use these lids to remember when I pumped it (otherwise, I'll forget when it was pumped): http://www.amazon.com/Medela-Fresh-Breast-Milk-Labeling/dp/B004K3Y838.

We used Dr Brown bottles previously, but LO would only take 2-3 OZ per feeding, so we recently switched to the Comotomo bottle (http://www.amazon.com/Comotomo-Natural-Bottle-Single-Green/dp/B004C053AQ). She seems to like the Comotomo a lot more and will take up to 5-6 OZ per feeding without much fuss.

LO prefers Dr. Browns bottles, and they seem to help with her colic.

We also tried Avent, but she was *really* messy with them, which is a complaint I've heard from several friends of ours with kids.

There are different "speeds" for bottle nipple feeding, based on the size of the hole in the nipple. The packages are marked for which ages the "speed" is appropriate for.

Even if you get a bottle you can't use directly with the Medela, its not a big deal to pump, then pour the milk into whatever bottle you will be using.

For BF, you might want to get a Boppy pillow, or one from MyBrestFriend.

I say it also depends what you're doing.

I only give maybe one bottle a week, so I don't actually need much.

I have just the 2 medela 5oz bottles that came with my pump, the one Medela Calma nipple, that also came with my pump, and then 50 storage bags for my freezer stash. My LO might go straight from this to sippie cup.

make sure you get the breast flow bottles so that there wont be nipple confusion (although they still say you should wait 3 weeks before you introduce a bottle unless you have problems BF) and make sure they are BPA free. They make glass ones as well. I got these because a friend recommended them

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004FL7QMU/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&smid=A3NDLME6YRMGAB

I have the Medela Pump in Style pump. Again i am just shy of 36 weeks pregs so all of these were suggestions from friends and from my breastfeeding class. You should take some childcare and labor and delivery classes close to when you start your 3rd trimester. they will usually cover alot of the necessities. La Leche League is also a great resource. Good luck doll Still so excited to see you getting more and more preggie everyday!!!!!

@jholler25: Don't worry it sounds so much more intimidating than it really is! You'll be fine.

The threading is referring to the part at the top of the bottle that screws on to the pump. You could just buy one a few types of bottles and try them one by one to see how your LO responds. Someone mentioned on anothet post that BuyBuyBaby lets you return them in this situation even if they are used as long as you keep the packaging.

@Mrsbells: So what do you do for the bottles, just keep 1 or 2 of several kinds around until you figure out which bottle they like? Sorry if that's a silly question. I feel like I will never know how to do this. It's not nearly as easy as "Put boob in mouth."

My DD hates the bottles that came with my Medela breastpump.I use Dr Browns and she takes those well. An added bonus is that the threading on the Dr Browns bottles is the same as on the Medela so I can pump directly into the Dr Browns bottles when I need to to save time.
