I tried Avent and Playtex VentAire. The Avents made her throw up but the Ventaires are awesome.

@plantains - I didn't start pumping until 3 weeks as recommended by my midwife to establish supply, and the first few weeks I only offered the bottle once every few days. Now that I am preparing to go back to work (cries!!!!!) I've been doing a bottle a day to get her used to it. She seems to have no trouble going between the two even though I didn't introduce a bottle until later.

@sorrycharlie: nope no leaking for me at all. I guess make sure the vent is up toward the baby's nose. But we didnt do that all the time and never had any leaking issues.

@sulli301: @LivsMama: do you guys find that they leak? that was one of the reviews I saw on babiesrus.com. Otherwise, I LOVE the idea of them! I feel like if I consistently offer that from the beginning it won't be as much of an issue (we'll go a step further if faced with issues, of course!)

I had purchased First Years Breastflow bottles before LO was born because the reviews online said its great for BF mommas. Thr first few times I tried feeding her a bottle at 4 weeks, she hated it! But I stuck to trying a bottle at least every other day and now she takes it fine. She fusses sometimes if I waited too long to feed and she wants the boob for comfort. A friend also gave me a Tommee Tippee bottle to try since I wanted to find the best bottle, and LO took right to it!! The nipple base is much more pliable than Breastflow bottles and feels more like the boob. I'm going to try the Tommee Tippee bottles again this week and see how it is again.

Does everyone feel like LO drinks super fast from bottles compares to BFing? She can chug down 3 oz in a matter of minutes and I worry! Lol

We tried several different brands and my LO ended up liking the Think Baby bottles. The silicone tip is really soft so I think he liked this one the best. I agree, you may have to go through several brands since each baby prefers something different. =\

olive had bottles since the day she was born, but 5 days without a bottle when she was 2 1/2 months old, and she went on a full out bottle strike. it really is consistency because she took the bottle again with some tears and screaming, and though she has one she prefers, she will now switch back between three different bottles without much problem. although she will only take a bottle from our nanny and no one else, but that's another problem!

the bottles that we're using now are the comotomo bottle. they're brand new and getting excellent reviews for other moms as well:

http://www.amazon.com/Comotomo-Natural-Bottle-Single-Green/dp/B004C053BA/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1332781157&sr=8-3

the nipple is HUGE so it touches olive's face. she seems to like it best!

bump! i'm working on a registry list, and very interested in tommee tippee. some reviews complain of leakage and that the nipples "hit baby's nose"...doesn't the breast "hit" baby's nose, too?

I plan to BF if possible with 1-2 bottles a day/night to let DH help.

We had exactly the same problem. LO decided one day to just refuse the bottle. The next 2 weeks were hideous! DH tried a bottle each night. Sometimes it took an hour to get 20ml down. There were tears -mine, DH's, LO's. Eventually LO got the idea again. After that we made sure LO had a bottle a few times a week - just to maintain

We used the Avent bottles. Honestly? I don't think the bottle matters, I think you have to just stick with it. Do make sure that you use the slow flow nipples as they mimic breastfeeding the best.

I've also heard that it's all about consistency in offering the bottle and not really the particular brand. I know two different moms whose babies were taking the bottle, but once they stopped offering it for a few days, it was over and they never took it again. Their stories have convinced me that we will offer one bottle a day (starting at 3 weeks - that's when they say to start, right?) and never skip it so that way baby TTT will always be used to taking a bottle and I'll be able to leave him for more than two hours at a time.

DS is EBF but his occasional bottle was a Nuby Silicone bottle until 6 months and then we switched to Pura Stainless Steel bottles which I LOVE. You can use different brand nipples on them and even the sippy cup type nipples. We've always used the slow flow nipples with both bottles.

We used MAM first and now have switched to Tommee Tippee due to the fact I hated washing so many parts with the MAM bottles. We've also went through a Dr. Brown bottle and one Nuk bottle though before we found the MAM ones. All babies just seem to be different (and difficult!) with what they like.

My LO take s Tommee Tippee...she hasn't had any issues since we first introduced the bottle. It's the only bottle we've tried. I do have a friend that went through just about every bottle you could imagine, and finally her daughter began taking the avent bottles. Sometimes it's just trial and error to see what your LO likes (as PP mentioned).

ETA-Liv is EBF as well. We stick to a slower flow bc it mimics the breast flow better

We have the same problem... for us, from weeks 0 to 7 she took bottles and breast no problem. Weeks 6-7 we were on vacation (my sister's wedding) and she got more bottles than I would've liked so at around week 8, I just BF'ed a lot... Week 9 and on she started rejecting the bottle!! It's been so frustrating! Everyone, including her ped say to just keep practicing again and she'll eventually take it again. I've heard that the less you give the bottle, the more they'll prefer just boobs, and its harder when they get older to re-introduce it, so keep trying before it's too late!

My baby is 4 months now and lately we've had some hope... She takes 1 oz from Medela bottles... Which is funny to me b/c i feel like those are the least breast-like, but whatever works, you know? We also have Playtex drop-ins and she doesn't like them, but my first DD did and they were recommended by our LC as most breast-like. I heard their latex nipples are more like breast than their silicone ones too.

Lastly, I also have heard that it really doesn't matter the brand... That in the end, moms say it's just about consistency in offering the bottle. What bottles are you using now? If she took them before, she will probably take them again, just keep at it? I know one mom who's baby never took the bottle, and she ended up nursing him til 3 yo bc he was so stubborn... I know another that is still nursing at 15 months... no bottles ever, which is astounding to me... They just won't take milk any other way besides straight from the boobs. These stories motivated me to keep practicing now while baby is still relatively young.

This post might help too: http://boards.hellobee.com/topic/introducing-the-bottle-to-an-ebf-baby

This is a pretty common problem, and it's really different for every baby. Sometimes you have to try a bunch of different bottles until you find the one your baby will take. My friend had the same problem and I recommended Playtex drop-ins. Those were the only bottles that worked for her.

When LO was one month, I started giving her 4oz. of formula once or twice a week (if we were out somewhere as I wasn't 100% bfeeding yet). Then I got mastitis and was doing a 50/50 of formula and bfeeding. I would also pump milk and then feed LO through a bottle with no problem at all. When mastitis was gone, I was able to bfeed again and have been exclusively. Recently, I 've had to leave LO with my in-laws for a few hours with formula AND breastmilk and she wouldn't take the bottle! Downright refused it by blocking her lips with her tongue so the bottle couldn't be put in her mouth! I've tested this out at home - had breastmilk in a bottle and tried to feed her but she wouldn't take it. But she gobbled up my boob.

Anyway...I thought it could be the nipple of the bottle. Any bottles you prefer?
