So for a full load, we'd use only a quarter scoop. Now that we have a HE washer we use even less. I bought some 2nd hand baby clothes and they smelled SO good that I have been trying to figure out what detergent it might be. It almost smelled like a cherry popsicle. If I find that, I am at least switching some clothes to that! One seller had higher quality ones than the other, so it does vary. They shouldn't be gummy or sticky, though they worked fine, they just didn't last as many washes. Once I run out of the homemade stuff (I made a huge batch several months ago), we'll probably just wash everything but the diapers in Charlie's Soap. ETA: Someone who came to look at our front-loading washer/dryer (after we swapped them out twice) told us to use no more than half the recommended amount of detergent. He said any more than that and it would never wash out, leaving a residue. I'm allergic to dyes, and DH can't use anything but Tide. So, it works for us. I used to use Purex free & clear but DH gets a rash if I wash his clothes in it. And I don't think they make a HE version of it (I could be wrong). We used to use the fragranced Kirkland or Tide and I miss that smell!
