K wasn't sunny side up, but I had truly awful back labour. I also had wicked back pain all through pregnancy though, so that might have had something to do with it.

I had it with both D and S. I have no idea why but it was on the list of reasons to schedule a c section with M.

@ScarletBegonia: haha - I hated my anesthesiologist. He kept trying to explain to me why my epidural wasn't working, and I think wanted me to tell him "it's okay, no sweat!" I just wanted him to leave.

I have no idea because DS was in the perfect position and small and still I had back labor until I gave up and got the epidural. I had a lot of lower back pain while pregnant so maybe just anatomy?

My anaesthesiologist (aka my saviour and the man I truly love, who gave me an epidural after 10 hrs back labour & 1 hr pushing through back labour) told me that because of my preexisting back issues (multiple slipped discs & muscle issues), I probably would have felt the pain there no matter what, as the nerves there are sensitised to pain already. Who knows if that's true!? All I know is he took the pain away!!

I didn't know that a sunny side up baby could cause back labour! LO was that way around right until the last minute before I started pushing and my back labour was awful. I've always had back ovulation/period pain though so figured that was normal for me.

My DS wasn't sunny side up but I has horrible back labor. It was awful. :( I'm expecting the same for this one regardless of position. I think some women just labor that way.

I think your own anatomy and how the baby is positioned in your body attributes to it, too.

I had back labor twice because both of my babies were posterior.

My baby was sunny side up. Oh the back labor, it was so bad. I was trying to crawl out of my skin. I had cervidil in, so I couldn't even get up to move or walk around.

Mine was a double whammy - sunny side up baby, who also engaged in an asynclitic super crooked position.

I had back labor but my baby was faced the right way. I think it can also be a result of baby's position otherwise. LO was born with a slight shoulder dystocia (meaning her shoulder got stuck on the way out, they had to reach in and fix it once her head was out) and I think something about that position made labor very long and painful.

The devil...well, that was my first thought. Other than that, I thought it just had to do with the baby being sunny side up.

I had a sunny side up baby (who rotated and came out sideways at the last second) and had some pretty bad back labor. I hear it's common to get again once you had it once...bah.

Besides a sunny side up baby?

My mom said she had it with both of her births. So far I only have 1 LO (who was sunny side up, according to dh) and I had pretty much all back labor. Wondering if that was the only reason..

Stories anyone?
