I still use onesies at 18mo. It's effing cold here, and she is SO busy, bending down, climbing - it all gets exposed and she doesn't know to pull her shirt back down.

We will stop this spring/summer when it warms up and just switch to shorts and a top. It will coincide nicely with potty trainingn

Does anyone know of a brand that makes longer undershirts? I could tuck them in. Either a tank or tee would work. The Gerber ones we have (we got 2 from a friend) seem super short.

At 15 mo, we still put a onesie under most of DS's clothes, but it's friggin' cold here, and I don't like exposed skin. Plus, he's got a little Buddha belly.

@littlejoy: @looch: I don't like exposed skin either. This is one of the reasons why I like buying a size up in shirts. I also noticed that shirts from the boys department are often times longer.

I understand, I'm also a big onesie fan and am sad DS is about to grow out of his 24 month onesies! We use undershirts for preschool (I think we just got the pack of Hanes undershirts), where they prefer not to have onesies even for non-toilet-trained toddlers, so they can do the diaper changes more quickly. It's nice to have an extra layer, especially with the winter as cold as it has been this year.

@littlejoy: I still use onesies at 17 months and he's walking but He still likes to be held, I don't like the exposed belly skin when someone picks him up....maybe I'm odd. But for your daycare, I'd probably not send an undershirt, I don't get the point I guess.

@littlejoy: my son's first daycare (age 2) was Montessori. They didn't start talking to us about potty training until he was 2.5. I'm definitely not trying to criticize in any way, I'm just surprised! and those teachers are very brave!

@Tanjowen: Last night, I asked DH if he thought she'd ever walk. Crazy mom brain. As soon as she hit 12 months, everyone started asking. He jokes that she can't walk because we are vegan, and she doesn't have the strength. ;)

@littlejoy: In the same boat here! My LO is 14 months and not walking, and I do onesies for the same reason - exposed skin when he crawls.

Would a one piece romper with snaps be okay? My LO has several fleece rompers that work great for cold weather.

@littlejoy: I didn't "get" the question either. After onesies, we just used shirts and bottoms. Once, DS was pulling up regularly and then walking there was no exposed skin. I have never used an undershirt on my son. But we do live in the south and he is warm natured. Also, he was always on the chubby side so for clothes to fit width wise, they were generally on the long side.

Once she walked onesies were gone (I find them a big pain in the butt.) however, I do wear a tank top everyday so I guess I'm still for an undershirt ;) She hates layers, so a shirt and pants is all she's going to allow me to put on her!

@littlejoy: my LO has this too (he has a long torso and no butt, so shirts just always ride up on him/pants fall down when he's bending over) but we don't do onesies anymore...I figure i only care about the exposed skin when it's cold out, when it's warm, not really a big deal. I just try to remember to sunscreen his back in the summer!

@Smurfette: like I mentioned, baby isn't walking yet. It's a little hard to fully grasp what that will be like. These are both 18 month clothes (not too small when standing), and girlfriend is rocking some major exposed skin.

If it's not an issue once they are walking, awesome. First time parent ... Isn't that the definition of an over-thinker?
