@Vegmama: I'm so glad you found a solution that works! That's what we did for a long time. If he has trouble sleeping again when he starts cutting molars, I think we will utilize a floor bed.

We ended up just popping the pack n play next to our bed. It's working for now, and I have to admit: I kind of love that I have my bed back!! She does end up in there with us at around 5:00 am, but still, I get at least 6 hours of glorious space!

Also if you have a convertible crib that allows you to take one side off, there are instructions online for safely sidecarring that, giving her lots of space. You attach it underneath to the bed so it can't move away and then you put a firm foam piece in the crack to form a nice transition to your bed.

Or you can just get a cheap crib from IKEA and do the same thing. It's a sidecar that is big enough for a two year old.

We made our own bed into a floor bed, and I made a headboard myself so it would look nice and like a real bed. It worked great for us.

Now that she's 15 months we're back in a regular bed and I stick a pillow by the edge when I leave. If she wakes up she knows how to get out of the bed safely, feet first.

We've been bed sharing since birth, and it's been fairly simple and greatly positive. DD is kind of a night owl, so we usually just head to the bedroon with her (~8pm) and we'll read, chat, or Netflix once she's down (she's a heavy sleeper). However, on evenings we want to return to the living room, we just put a pillow on either side of her body. While she is very mobile (11 months, crawling, standing, and cruising), she's been surprisingly good about simply "calling" for us if she happens to wake, and we're in another room. A basic monitor is also helpful to keep tabs.

DD sleeps in the middle of my husband and I, straight on the mattress without pillows especially close by.

We currently just put pillows on the edge and watch her on the monitor. Weirdly, she doesn't move when she wakes up. She just kicks up her legs and waits for someone to come find her paci or cuddle her. We plan to start her in the crib once we can no longer leave her alone, but this is working out so far. She's never slept more than thirty min straight in her crib, so I'm delaying it as long as possible.

We just lay her on a floor bed (mattress on the floor) in "her" room until we went to bed. Then we would usually preemptively move her to our bed. I had the co-sleeper functioning as a sort of bed-rail on my side of the bed (flipped so that the flat/taller side was flush to the bed) and then Mr. T was the buffer on the other side. We would have moved the mattress onto the floor in our room, but Lorelei was a really calm sleeper.

@Vegmama: They sell foam inserts you can put under your sheet to create a barrier to keep her from rolling out of the bed, (like this http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B002NYC5LI?pc_redir=1403455177&robot_redir=1 ) or you can use a pool noodle similarly. I was paranoid and have to admit I just went to bed with LO, though his bedtime at that point wasn't horribly early.
Another thing that really helped us is establishing the bed as a sleep only zone-no games or playing allowed. This was, LO is less likely to associate it with rolling/crawling around.
Is it practical to push your bed against a wall, so there's one less side to roll off of?
I think with bed-sharing you end up improvising what works best for you-good luck!

We've used a co-sleeper that my husband built since our daughter was 5 weeks old. Before that, we bed shared. Now that she's nearing 6 months old, she can roll over, and will soon be crawling.

We aren't ready to transition her into a crib, but we also put her to bed before we're ready to sleep, and I don't want to worry about her crawling out of the bed/co-sleeper.

For co-sleeping families, what comes next? I'm okay with bed sharing, but I just don't understand the logistics of putting her to bed before we go in there, and how we keep her from falling. Hopefully it goes without saying, if a crib is the only thing we can use (which I doubt), we would use it in our room.

Please no judgement or negative opinions on co-sleeping.
