@Anagram: I just happened to be on the Britax site, it's 19 inches wide.
I like the britax (we have this and the nautilus by Graco) because of the clicktight install for seatbelts. At a certain point, you can't use LATCH any longer and I am really confident of my ability to install the seat using a belt.

@Anagram: specs say its 19 inches - We have a bigger car so I haven't ever really noticed if it was big or small -

We got LO1 a Britax Frontier when she was 2.5, when LO2 was ready for the convertible car seat. They're 22 months apart, and so far that's the only seat we've had to buy since LO2 was born.

@Emsmems: oh wow, that's good to know, I didn't realize I could bring it on and use it as a harnessed seat!

@looch: most combination seats are approved for use on a plane as a harnessed seat, but not as a booster!

So they are supposed to be harnessed until they are booster ready which is usually 6ish. You COULD buy LO1 a combination seat that does forward facing only (harnessed) to a booster, and then LO2 could go in the clek. Then buy LO1 a cheap no back booster when the time comes for LO2 to move to the combination.

Many seats say their limits are X lbs and Y inches but it usually comes down to their height (when forward facing) and the harness slots being high enough to still be above their shoulder. The best combination seat for a tall LO is a Britax Frontier because of its high harness heights.

Anticipating that LO#2 will need a convertible soon we got a graco nautilus 3-1 (as a gift) for dd 1. It's a convertible with a 5pt harness that you can then use as a backed booster with the car seat belt then take the back off as a backless booster and use the car seat belt. I'd wish I knew about these before because I would've just gotten something like that for dd 1. She had a britax marathon.

Harness to Booster seat, like the Graco Nautilus or Britax Frontier. Basically, once you forward face and the height/weight requirements are met, you could use one of these seats. They aren't FAA approved for use on aircraft, though.

eta: they are FAA approved in harness mode!

We moved DS into a combination seat (Britax Frontier) at 3 so DD could use his marathon. We moved DD into a Frontier at 3.5

They have a 9yr exp. so I don't plan on buying anymore seats

following, my DH keeps saying that he thinks LO2 will be able to use DS's convertible seats after her infant seat but they're only 20 months apart; I've been letting him say it instead of arguing lol. It all depends on size I believe and DS is 90% for height and weight so maybe, idk I kind of doubt it but we'll deal with that when she outgrows the infant seat. ;)

I have a 19 month old and a Clek Foonf, which I've heard they can use practically forever......but what would come after the Clek for her and around what age? (I know that depends on height and weight).

Generally, she's around 80% for height and 45% for weight.

We're going to have another LO and we just have 1 car--I want to buy as few car seat products as possible, but I also want the possibility of 2 car seats and an adult (the adult can be a little squished) or 3 car seats in the future.

I'm already thinking about convertible seats for #2. We also travel a fair amount, so the super heavy seats like the Clek aren't the best for flights. I like the idea of the Combi Cocorro, but I heard LOs grow out of them by 3-3.5ish. My older LO would be 5-5.5 at that age.

Could she move from the Foonf to something else, passing the Foonf down to LO #2 at that point?

Or should I just go for another super heavy seat like another Foonf or a Radian?
