I was starting to feel really uncomfortable and for the first time felt super excited about meeting our baby instead of nervous about how she was going to get here. Once I stopped doing baby stuff around the house cause I was so exhausted, she decided to come!

Everyone keeps asking if our nursery is ready and I'm always baffled that we get asked this so often while I'm not even in the third trimester and neither of my showers have happened yet. I don't think I'm in the minority at least waiting until the shower before setting it up!

for example my first shower was yesterday and I was so thankful that we controlled ourselves and didn't make any purchases because I got so much stuff!!

When my water broke and we didn't have a choice anymore, we were resigned (and excited too, of course) that it would happen in the next 24 hours.

Ultimately it was the weekend I hit full term, on that Fri, Sat, Sun: my work went on Christmas break, our work Christmas parties happened, we went to the NFL game we'd been looking forward to (Go Browns!), our birth class finished, and I decided I was uncomfortable enough for him to be evicted (he made me wait 2 more weeks).

I was in labor though and still didn't feel ready! But after the car seat was installed, I felt like it was ok for her to come. That and DH stopped traveling at 38 weeks.

@Cherrybee: i became obsessed with getting the car cleaned first before installing the car seat base. we have two dogs and they created a huge pile of fur back there. of course, the car's gone back to looking like crap but whatever, it made me feel good at the time.

being ready for me meant having the car seat base installed, having somewhere for the baby to sleep, and diapers/wipes. of course there was a lot more, but the ones i mentioned where the items i felt like had to be done.

if i had to do it again, i would have been prepared to rent a professional pump from the hospital and taken it home after birth. i didn't think i would need one and i was wrong.

I went on maternity leave with 6 weeks until my due date and I was worried I wouldn't have enough things to do, so I :

Went swimming, a lot
Packed my hospital bag
Took an inventory of the clothing we had and what I thought we needed
Painted a decorative alphabet in the nursery
Went to lunch with other pregnant friends
Walked around town/Christmas markets
Began accupuncture, drinking red raspberry leaf tea

Just having things to tick off a list made me feel ready, in retrospect.

For me, being ready meant having all the things necessary for her to be here (nursery done, plenty of diapers, clothes, blankets, all the gear, etc). And in the past couple weeks it has been getting harder and harder to move around without bad pain and the painful belly stretching have made my body definitely feel ready for her to get the heck out haha.

Once I wasn't working, I felt ready. I knew I would never feel completely 100% ready until he was here, but once I was forced to stop working 2 weeks before my due date, I was ready to get the show on the road.

Hmm, so I've been thinking. If I did the following things, I might just feel ready:

1) Pack my hospital bag.

2) Wash all the baby clothes.

I might do those tasks this weekend...!

We have a lot we need to do before I'll feel ready for baby. We're moving our bedroom to another room, so a bunch of stuff in that room needs to be removed, then we need to move our furniture to the new room. We also plan to buy a new mattress because we hate ours, and we want to do that when we move to the other room so the bed can be delivered directly there. Then we have to move all of the baby stuff out of the room it's in, and move it to ours (where his official room will be). I'd like for the closets to be all organized and for some clothes to be washed, but I have no idea how much to wash, haha. And all the cloth diapers will need to be prepped.

Then in the living room I'd like swing to be set up and ready to go, as well as the PnP we're using as a changing station. And a gate between the living room and kitchen needs to be installed so I can keep the dogs out of my way if needed.

Just thinking about all these things has me overwhelmed, lol. Good thing I have almost 6 months to get them accomplished. And by "I", I mostly mean DH ;).

Ha-- I'm totally not ready! I'm 32 weeks too, and the nursery is not at all ready. I think of the things you actually NEED right away, the only thing we are missing is diapers, but my shower isn't for a few more weeks and we aren't buying anything until after that. I'm borrowing a rock and play for the beginning, but don't have it yet, and our crib and rocker are in the stores waiting for pick up. But we have some little onesies, a bunch of receiving blankets, and the carseat, so everything else we could pick up quickly if needed.

I still need these last few weeks very badly though!

There were so many things that I thought I needed. We moved 3 weeks before he was born and I was in full panic mode. I had a honey dew list a mile long! Then he got stuff and the majority of things I spent stressed about getting done for the baby, we still haven't really used and he's 1 years old lol.

@FutureMrsMcK: I agree! At one point I was just so ready to not be pregnant anymore! That's not to say I wasn't scared of L&D but the fear was much worse than the reality of it.

I also agree that we were physically and mentally as ready as we could possibly be -even though I still had so many moments of doubt saying, how are we going to do this? Once the baby's here, your instincts will take over - you'll see! :)

I have next to nothing for this kid because we have a huge move coming up (so no nursery, no nesting, no nada). But I did panic a little and realized that we have nowhere comfortable to change the baby (at table/dresser height). So we went out and bought a changing pad. And now, somehow, I feel ready, heh!

This weekend we went to a 4-day wedding celebration and all weekend people have been asking us if we are "ready" for the baby. We, of course, smiled and said we were... but it got me to thinking. Are we??!!

We have almost finished the nursery but its not like she is going to be in there for a few weeks at the very least! We have a few clothes and nappies and creams etc but there really is nothing we could need that DH can't get from the 24 hr supermarket as and when the need arises! We have our car seat and pushchair.....

..... but I can't shake the feeling that we are not ready!! All of the above - its just stuff. What did "being ready" for the baby mean for you?
