@SeptMomma12: It was at almost exactly 3 months that I felt like a nap schedule began to fall into place, and it was so lovely to be coming out of the newborn haze and have some routine in our day! This is when my son started reliably taking a morning nap, about 90 minutes-2 hours after he woke up. This was almost always his best nap of the day (an hour fifteen-two hours). I then put him down about every 2 hours after and it was usually 3 naps a day. The other two naps weren't ever as long as his morning nap, but were usually at least 45 minutes-1 hour. He'd eat as soon as he woke up (the EASY schedule), and then play between naps. For what it's worth, my pediatrician said the reason his morning nap was the best is that he was so well-rested from sleeping at night that he was able to fall asleep before he got over-tired and sleep well. It's still his best nap at 9 months old! Good luck getting into a routine

The only thing I can count on is he will need to nap one hour after waking up in the morning. Everything else is up in the air. Usually is awake 1.5-2hrs but might need 30 additional minutes to settle and then naps last 40min-1hour.
I read all these schedules and "sleep evolution" posts and just tell myself they are using their best day all month to write about.

Two hours up, two hours down, give or take. He doesn't always take two hour naps, but I put him down within two hours of being awake before he gets overtired

We haven't had much of a schedule yet, either, but I'm more & more interested in getting one together. I'll be working (part time, WAH) soon, too, so this would be really helpful to be able to count on getting some things done. I do observe that she falls asleep now about 2h after waking up for the morning, & mid afternoon, but other naps during the day are variable &/or on the go if we are out & about.

I would just tell them the 90-minute interval thing. My LO is 4 months and that's still how I guide her nap "schedule." Some days she wakes up earlier and has shorter naps and so the whole schedule shifts earlier - those days she has to take a fourth nap, which usually does not go well. But yeah we start winding her down about 75 minutes after her last wake-up so she'll hit the crib about at the 90-minute mark. If we have her up much past that point she starts to freak out and is much harder to get down.

It varies between 1 to 2 hours from her last wake up. She sleeps about an hour usually. Sometimes I can coax her into a 2 hour stretch (12 to 2). She has 3 to 4 naps a day.

Napped 4 times per day. Awake time was about 75-90 minutes. Depending on your work schedule I'd probably plan/try for LO napping 3 times at daycare and maybe a catnap on the way home?

@SeptMomma12: at daycare she eats 2 5-6oz bottles at 9 and 2. At home she eats every 2-3 hours still. Our typical "schedule" at home is:

up at 6:30 eat play diaper change etc
8 nap
10ish eat play diaper change etc
11:15 nap
12:45 eat play diaper change etc
2 nap
4 eat play diaper change etc
5:15 nap
6 eat play diaper change etc
7:30-8 bedtime
3am eat
This changes day to day but it's close

Like everybody else, I'd try to put him to sleep about 90 minutes after he woke up. People looked at me weird when I'd swoop in and say "nap time!" when he seemed perfectly fine but he usually went to sleep easily and if I waited too much longer he'd get overtired and fight it.

Nap schedule, what nap schedule?! Mine never had one, I just went by how max awake time.

They often don't have a very set schedule that young and they often start catnapping too around 3-4mo. Most daycares will just put them to sleep as needed. I used to go off of hours, so every 1.5-2hours of being awake or so I would try to get her to nap.

Should consolidate to 2 naps on a real schedule around 6mo ish.

@SeptMomma12: DD currently has a max awake time of 1.5 hours if I miss that she fights naps like crazy. Not really a schedule but that's our routine

My son was awake about 75-85 minutes between naps and slept about 90 minutes to 2 hours per nap. He was napping 3 times a day with a 30-40 minute 4th catnap that he was dropping so he took it half the time and always with a fight. This of course was all on an ideal day obviously.

i think they start out napping about four times a day and slowly drop each one as the months progress. at 3 months i think they're still going for four ir three littles naps, maybe one is longer than the others, a day.

Right now while I'm on maternity leave, DD just sorta catnaps here and there, especially when we're on the go. But she starts day care in 3 weeks and I need to give them a rough schedule for when I'd ideally like her to nap. I'm planning to spend the next 3 weeks working on this schedule. Any ideas?
