@LBee: In our case, I've been able to do what it takes to get through a regression and then go back to normal once the worst passes. My kiddo has not consistently slept through the night since 3.5 months but he will every now and then which reminds me that it's possible. The four-month regression didn't really pass until about 6 months for us, but it wasn't terrible every night. And then he cut teeth, got a cold, and learned how to crawl, pull up, stand and cruise all at once and it went to crap again. He's sleeping ok at night now at 8 months.

@LBee: I hate to say it but yes, probably are stating a bad habit. But I think you just need to do whatever works to get through this. Some kids just snap out of the sleep regression. Mine never did so we ended up doing CIO.

Bump.

AKA HELLLLLP ME!!! When will this end? My baby who was previously STTN is now waking up multiples times a night just to cry (2 nights in a row now... and he's exactly 16 weeks). Last night at 1:30 AM he was wide awake after a fun little cry fest. He hasn't done these antics since 10 weeks -- and has actually never woken up screaming crying, he just usually stirs and starts being slightly fussy.

I have ended up pulling him into bed with me both nights (my husband just had major surgery and I'm solo parenting... I've got a lot on my plate right now). Am I starting a bad habit?

We're in the middle of it - about 2 weeks ago he started waking up in the middle of the night earlier and earlier (was consistently going til 330, 430 and sometimes even straight through til 6!), til it was consistently around midnight. Then he'd wake again at 4 or so and be up and down til morning - if we were lucky that was 630, unlucky and he wouldn't sleep much past 4 at all! It was getting moderately better last week, then he got his 4 month shots, sprouted 2 teeth, and got his first cold. So its been a shit show. Last night was a bit better - up at 145, and 5am basically for the day - better than the constant awakening of the night before.
Hoping it will end eventually!? He's 4mos and 1 week.

I remember having a baby that ate twice a night and slept well, suddenly starting to wake up 4-5 times a night, hungry and screaming for about 2 weeks. And he moved his bedtime up from 8 p.m. to 6 p.m.

It was hell, but it came and went quickly!

She seemed to alternate weeks. She'd have a bad week, followed by a good week. Then, just when you were getting happy she was back to her normal self, she'd have another bad night! She's 5 months old yesterday and her sleep is still whacky. The latest and greatest is waking up at 2 to eat (fine by me!) But, then random nights wakes up at 4 am screaming. Half the time I can pat her back to sleep, the other half she's coming in bed with us so I can get a few more hours of much needed sleep.

I think I was lucky but I remember it feeling like hell! My LO was sleeping so well and all of a sudden she wanted to wake up every hour and I nursed her back to sleep. Each time took about 15-20 min which felt like eternity, especially since she would do it all over again 45 min later. THEN she was up for the day at 3am. She did this on and off for about 2-3 weeks.. she was in the rock n play at the time but when that regression hit, we bed shared from that point forward! I cracked! haha

It was just like *bam*, one day it was good, then next it was baaadd! We when from having a baby that would sleep 6 hours straight and then wake 1-2 times til morning, to waking up every hour aaaalll night long. It was crazy bad and the only time I ever felt I might have post partum depression. We started sleep training (Sleep Easy Solution) at 5 months and then life was good again :)

We were very lucky. With Xander, he just started waking up an hour earlier than normal. It probably only lasted a couple weeks and then he went back to sleeping well.

ours started at 3 and a half months, and lasted about a month. Lots of night wake-ups and nap refusals, but by far the worst thing was that she would get up for the day progessively earlier and earlier until she was consistently waking up at 4 am ready to face the day! I got through it by being a zombie and trying not to have too high of expectations for accomplishing anything. We bedshared, so I nursed her back to sleep where I could.

That was really the only bad sleep regression for us. It started early and lasted about a month :-/ but like a light switch, when it was over she went back to great sleeping and increased her hours of overnight sleep at that point. Hang in there!

I feel like it started around 3 months for us and hasn't gotten better yet at 18 weeks. My kid was never a good napper but slept ok at night (a 6 hour stretch, eat, then 3-4 hour stretch) but his sleep went to crap right before he learned to roll at 3 months. He went between wake ups every hour to being awake for 3 hours in the middle of the night and then finally went to 2-3 hour stretches. He does occasionally have nights where I can't put him down so he sleeps on me for stretches. We moved him to the crib this weekend and he is doing the same stretches he was doing before we moved him so I guess I consider it a success. I think part of his current issue is he sleeps on his stomach and gets stuck. He knows how to roll belly to back but I think he might be a bit nervous about doing it in the crib so he gets stuck on his belly and wakes up.

Hopefully your LO's sleep regression isn't as bad as it has been for us. I'm so ready for him to at least get back on a wake up schedule! (He used to wake at the same-ish time every night depending on how long his stretches were).

DS started early, around 3.5 months and it continued until 7 months or so....He was waking up every couple of hours and sometimes staying awake for an hour or more each time. Once he started crawling at 7 months, he woke only once per night. It was a veeeeerrry long few months.

My LO's started early (3.5 months), which is when we lost our precious 11 hour stretches of sleep (hard to believe that happened!) but it was just one wakeup at 4am. then at 4.5 months she added a second wakeup, but it was right around when we diagnosed the milk allergy. Then she settled down, for like a week, and then started crawling at 5.5 months and ruined sleep again. mastered crawling by 6 months, slept for a few days and then started teething hard and standing in her crib, and now here we are at 7 months and her sleep is a mixed bag because she's teething hard (already has two, working on two more). I'm guessing that's not what you wanted to hear, but hopefully i'll have a better ending in a few weeks ;)

all that said, if her sleep is bad now, maybe you're hitting the hardest time and will have a quick bounceback. also, my LO seems particularly sensitive to teething (she's not the type who wakes up with teeth and you're like "when did that happen?!") and she's also a very hardworking baby - she wont rest until she's achieved something (crawling, standing, etc.)

sending you an e-cup of joe! please send one back! ;)

It didn't affect sleep... But at 4 months she was a cranky, hot mess every waking moment. So much so that I thought she had developed colic. I tried gas drops, new bottles, different formula... I was at my wits end and about to call the doctor (I was sure something was wrong because this was previously the happiest baby in the world) when all of a sudden it stopped as suddenly as it started. It lasted about 2 weeks and was by far the most challenging period I've had with her.

Hope the end is near for you!!

@Dandelion: how are our babies old enough for this already?!

G has some great nights, but she is also doing the "stay up for 2 hours when she gets up to eat" thing again. She wants to play, and she won't be soothed by much. Her naps are also so hit or miss. We are also dealing with eliminating dairy, so not sure how much that affects it. But I think we may be in the middle of it.

When did it start? How long did it last?

We are alternating nights of great sleep with nights that are nightmares (like last night, for example). We haven't swaddled in a few weeks, so that isn't a new change. She is very nearly rolling both ways and is so much more observant the last couple of days. She is only 14 weeks, but it seems like she is going through some of the things that often contribute to it.

How did you cope? Bonus if you slept in the same room! Or if you can send coffe and/or energy through the Internet! :silly:
