We are also going through this!

It sucks the most for night sleep, though his naps have suffered as well. He is now extremely aware of when DH or I leave his room at night. We do bath, bottle, bed and when we would lay him down, he would toss and turn for a minute, then fall asleep easily. Now, he is calm as long as I am standing there, but the minute I leave his room he is hysterical!! It takes him ages to fall asleep now.

Once he is asleep, he'll sleep until his MOTN bottle at 1 AM. He used to drink his bottle and go right back to bed. But now, he just screams. He wants DH or I to stand in there and rub his back and sing to him. It's cute but so tiring! The minute we stop, he sobs and sobs.

He's teething, but this is even with Tylenol! In the MOTN, the only way for us to get any sleep is to bring him in bed with us. The minute he touches our mattress he is instantly asleep. I have no idea what to do... I guess we need to sleep train again? But with his surgery coming up, I just want to wait on the training until he is fully recovered.

@rahlyrah: poor baby :( (and definitely poor mommy!)

Have you tried the method of sitting beside the crib until he falls asleep? I believe it's the sleep lady shuffle or something like that?
It worked pretty well for my LO who also is not a good CIO candidate.

@cmomma17: I usually go 10 mins before I give up. He gets hysterical to the point of vomiting. It's ridiculous. I've tried waiting and trying again later with the same results.

When you say he refuses to nap - how long are you giving him before you throw in the towel?

I don't think we had a regression at 9 months (and we still have MOTN wake ups at 11 months so I'm jealous there), but we have bad/off days. Could be a million little things, new developments, teething, etc. I have my time limit for letting him cry before I will 'give up' but then I will take LO out of the crib, play/snuggle a little and then try the nap again about 25-30 minutes later. Usually the 2nd attempt works.

I posted yesterday about B suddenly refusing to nap in his crib. At first, I thought it could be because he hasn't been feeling well (cold and then stomach bug) but my DH brought up that it all started once he learned to crawl and pull himself up. On top of the nap issue, he has been waking up at 5 am each morning (way earlier than his normal 6:30-7:30). Luckily, no MOTN wakeups.

Could this be the 9 month regression?

If so, how long did it last? Did you have to nap train again? I've been letting B sleep on me because it's the only way he will nap. If I put him in his crib he immediately starts crying, sits up, and them pulls himself up. He then just stands there and screams because he doesn't know how to sit back down.

Should I just let him cry and risk not having a nap? Continue holding him during naps and risk it becoming a habit? The selfish part of me NEEDS him to nap because, with DH gone, it's the only break/alone time I get all day.

Why must these little creatures be so complicated?
