My LO seems to be in a similar place, however he isn't refusing to nurse, he just gets so distracted that sessions are short and he's down to 2 bottles while I'm away at work (he used to sometimes take 4, but always 3). He's just busy. He eats solids and purees great and he eats every type of food

We've already had our 9 month appointment. My LOs Ped said that I could introduce diluted cow's milk to him in a sippy with meals but not to replace any breastmilk/formula feedings until closer to 11 months. He also said that as long as LO drinks 10 oz and is eating tons of solids that everything is just fine and to keep offering water throughout the day. My LO is in the exact same percentile weight and height as he has been since just after birth.

@Adira: Ok, i'll keep offering, at least until he bites me, ha. I know what "no" means, lol. And I am becoming indifferent, so I'm not going to force it.

@Kemma: Ah, yes, very interested in all those things! But also--he's been standing and crawling for MONTHS, so it's not like they're new skills.

@blackbird: there's often a lull in demand at that age because babies are far too interested in rolling, crawling, standing etc but nursing frequency generally picks up again between 12-15 months.

Right around 9 months was when my supply started to dip for both my kids and they didn't seem to want to nurse as much. I don't think kids usually wean that young though, so I just kept pushing through it. With Logan, nursing first thing in the morning and before naps and bed were the only real times I could get him to nurse though - he wasn't interested any other time.

I would keep offering unless you're ready to be done yourself!

@catomd00: ahhh. it didn't occur to me it was a strike. His interest has been waning for awhile, so I'm not sure it's necessarily a new thing. I think my supply is pretty low at this point (we burned through a decent freezer stash and it's on its last legs! So i introduced a formula bottle to try to stretch it a bit). I'm going to ask his ped next week when she recommends introducing WCM

There tends to be a nursing strike/big reduction in nursing around that 8-9 month mark when they start upping their solids. For us, it passed pretty quickly and she went on to nurse pretty frequently when we were together up until I got pregnant and she weaned herself with a little help from me at 20 months.

I'd just follow his lead, you can't really make them nurse if they don't want to. But, it doesn't mean it's the end! If you're concerned about daycare bottles and aren't ready to introduce WCM, I'd just up your pumping to keep your supply up for the time being.

T isn't interested in breastfeeding too much, anymore, except before bed. He bites me when I try to make him nurse, and it's obvious all he wants is his sister's food. So I'm taking his lead on it, but it also means I'm down to pumping < 1 bottle/day. He gets 3 bottles/day at daycare, but if he spends the whole day with me, he really doesn't nurse that much, and definitely not for very long. Just seems to kind of wet his whistle a bit.

Is this what day weaning looked like for you? Just a higher affinity for solids > breastmilk? He's almost 9 months old, so he seems a little on the young side, but I'm also rolling with it because he seems really ready for real food--dude eats a scary amount sometimes.
