Sounds like he is getting plenty of milk to get full. DD was never a great eater, but after turning 1, basically refused most solids she had been eating. I think we were on a solid 6 months of purees, pouches, yogurt, and any kind of solid she would eat. After 2 y/o, she's finally becoming an easier eater, though still not the best.

@CakeLady: My little E is almost 15 months and has just recently started to take to solids. He has some underlying medical issues but honestly I don't mind. We found that he loves applesauce and bananas (or anything I am eating). We are a try it see how it goes kind of family. Some days he gets 2 meals sometimes 3. Other days we are lucky to get one in him. I try not to worry talk much because he is still EBF on demand anyway.

How is weight gain? If it's fine, I truly wouldn't worry and would just give it time (offer WCM or some other alternative when you're done pumping--he'll take one or the other). We were losing weight when this happened to us and cold turkey stopped all but one nursing session (we were going to do it gradually, but he really didn't resist much other than his morning session, which we kept another 7 months). That led to a serious increase in solids intake (he ended up gaining 12 ounces in one week after that!)

Can you do meals before bottles. That way hopefully he would be hungrier and eat more food.

I think though that over time he will start eating more food. If you stop pumping can he drink WCM during the day at daycare instead?

DS BF until 20 months. After 12 months he only got wcm at daycare and I let him nurse at home when he wanted.

My 14 month old is not into solids yet, and I'm a bit concerned. I found this pretty reassuring and it advises against restricting breastmilk (my son still breastfeeds a ton and has BM in a sippy cup) in order to improve appetite. I'm still trying to figure it out.

charlie had a problem with chunky solids and ate purees until 18 months. but he's a totally normal kid now. i think he had some problems with texture and threw up a lot, and just as i was about to see an expert, he grew out of it.

does he eat purees?

My daughter's solids consumption increased dramatically closer to 13 months. I think it just takes time for some kids. I pumped until around 13 months and had a sizeable freezer stash so she got BM in bottles and then sippy cups until around 13.5/14 months. By then, she was eating plenty of solids and she still nurses a couple times a day, too.

Unfortunately don't have much advice, but we are going through the same thing right now! LO is 10 months and she eats very little solids, mostly throws it on the floor if she's self feeding or pushes our hands away if we're trying to feed her. There are certain foods we've found she likes - eggs, pear, cheese, blueberries - but at this point I can't fathom dropping all the formula! I try to remind myself that she won't be a 5-year-old still drinking bottles of formula and that it will all work out, but it's still stressful!

@mauxie: At home I try and have at least and hour and a half between bottles and meals so he's hungry. Everyday is a little different at daycare. We offer a mix of finger foods, purées, and pouches, it doesn't seem to make any difference. One or two bites of whatever it is and then no more. We tried to drop the bottle that he usually gets a bit after lunch.

Hmm.. How are the meals and bottles spaced out? Is he self-feeding the solids or fed by an adult, mix of both? Also, which bottle did you try and drop? Maybe start with an afternoon bottle and substitute a snack, or even a pouch if that helps with the transition?

DS will be 11 months on Friday and I am thinking about the transition to a solids based diet and feeling worried about it.

He has been sick quite a bit (thanks daycare :bummed: ) and each time he's had a new cold or ear infection we have had a setback with eating. We've never been able to get him to eat consistently and thanks to the most recent illness I feel like we are back at square one. I've been told that eats at daycare but I don't have a sense of how much he is actually eating.

Currently, he gets 3 5oz bottles of breastmilk during the day and nurses at least 2 more times at home. We tried to drop a bottle to get him to eat more at the recommendation of our pediatrician, which was a disaster. We offer solids regularly he'll sometimes eat a bite or two but mostly he just plays and throws it on the floor. To complicate things, we are trying a dairy elimination diet to see if it helps with chronic ear infections.

I WOH and I am planning to stop pumping at a year. How do I make sure he will still get enough to eat/drink? What did you do at a year if your LO wasn't into solids?
