I got spanked a lot as a young child. I was a very free spirited, stubborn and energetic kid. My parents would probably tell you how bad I was!</p> <p>I remember once I got spanked for biting my mom (I was 6). I think that was the worst thing I ever did as a little kid. </p> <p>When I got older, I would have things taken away from me (computer, phone, TV). My parents did a lot of yelling. I love my parents, but I hope to keep my cool a lot better than they did. That was the extent of that. My mom is extreeemmlyyy anti-spanking. </p> <p>Usually as a kid I would get in trouble for talking back, or being mean to my older brother. (I was real bratty sometimes.) I got sent to my room, phone privileges taken away, not allowed to play w/ friends, etc. As a teen...I never got in trouble I guess! Not that I can remember. If I did I guess I just wouldn't be able to go out and hang w/ friends, or like a pp said, get events that I was looking forward to taken away. But nothing specific comes to mind.</p> <p>DH was spanked. His dad would make them go upstairs and wait for him. He said that was the worst part, the waiting. My parents held their ground. The worst they could do is take my cell phone (they hardly ever did though because then they knew they couldn't get ahold of me!) I remember getting a speeding ticket in HS and I had to be groudned for 13 days because it was 13 MPH over the limit. I do remember once that my friends and I had written some code words for swear words on a piece of paper and also some not-so-nice code words for people we didn't like in our class. We were 11 and had just gone into middle school and were very unsure of ourselves.</p> <p>I remember my babysitter finding it and showing my parents and them being SO upset - not about the swear words, but about the mean names we had called others. I still remember their disappointment to this day and really reflecting on how I treated others. When i was a kid, it was mostly just behaving poorly in restaurants and being defiant and the like. I remember once I got carried out over my dad's shoulder! When i was older, I got in a LOT of trouble when my mom tried to adjust my swimsuit on my little teeny bopper boobs and I slapped her hand away! She grounded me for weeks for slapping her hand, lol</p> <p>Grounding me was about all they could do. But I got to see my friends for sports stuff all the time, so it only really sucked when someone had a sleepover! But then we'd all warn each other and I'd be on my best behavior, lol. I didn't have a car or a phone....and sending me to my room just meant I got to read books. Oh and my dad threatened to cut me off a lot! I was also spanked a lot, all the way up to my mid-teens. Disagreeing was considered talking back. I let myself get talked into driving to a donut shop and had a car accident. My dad grounded me from seeing a concert that weekend, because I broke my promise of staying at my friends house (he said car accidents happen &amp; that's okay, but breaking promises is not). Will you likely react the same c way with your LO?</p> <p>I will start with a few of mine. </p> <p>1) If I misspelled any words when I asked my mom to quiz me for a spelling test she would make me write each incorrect word 5 times until I spelled it correctly. She said this would teach me how to spell *and* not waste her time. </p> <p>2) In third grade I described a teacher as a bitch and a classmate told on me. My parents duscussed why I felt that way and why I chose that word. My punishment was writing an apology letter to the teacher.</p> <p>3) I TP'd some cars in the neighborhood with friends. My parents grounded me for a week because we were caught. My other friends were not punished. The grounding was just not visiting one of the friend's at her home. </p> <p>4) I made a huge pancake batter mess outside that attracred bees while my mom was sick and slept. She just simply cleaned it up. </p> <p>5) When my brother and I would cut up in the car, we lost our radio privileges. Instead of back &amp; forth with a station for us and one for our parents, we would have to listed to several jazz songs or oldies in a row. Or if we were really bad, instead of eating out we would head back home. </p> <p>DH thinks I was raised without discipline. I just think my parents simply didn't over react to alot of things. </p>
