@wheres_c: same! They let me have ginger ale a few hours after surgery and I was so excited about passing gas. Then I scarfed down some soup!

@Pirouette: yes you are! When my doctor told me no water free midnight I groaned about how I was waking up 3-5 times a night for water still. He said it was invade they had to put me completely under.

@marionberry: an elephant ear?! That sounds interesting!! Thats a good idea to ask for ice chips before - I'll have to see if my hospital will allow that. I'm worried about feeling sick after from being so hungry - that won't make it any easier to get myself out of bed, that's for sure!

@marionberry: they wouldn't let me eat until I passed gas. I've never been so happy to report that. It was the middle of the night, but I called the nurses' station and announced it proudly!!!

I agree with @MamaBehr about eating a lot! I lucked out in that it was Oktoberfest in a nearby community so I ate a corn dog and an elephant ear the night before. The hardest part is a) being SO thirsty before surgery (I asked and they let me have some ice chips prior to the procedure) and b) being SO hungry after the procedure. They wouldn't let me eat until I could move out of my bed to a chair and that is insanely painful that first day. But I was SO hungry that it was a great incentive to get me moving. Since your c-section is in the afternoon, I'd definitely eat carbs and proteins and maybe try to eat about every half hour or something until midnight so it lasts longer.

@sarbear: wow it sounds like I'm really lucky to be able to drink water at least!

@sandy: I can't believe you weren't starving that night! That's a long time!

@MamaBehr: thats what I was thinking - maybe a really late dinner so I don't wake up starving! But good to hear the food itself doesn't matter

For what it is worth, my water broke with my son at about 6:30 in the evening and my c-section was at 9:30 that night and for dinner that night we had three bean chili. I had eaten like normal! I didn't throw up or anything and was starving by the next morning. So I would just eat normally :) Maybe even a lot! My next c-section is scheduled for noon and I'm nervous about starving myself!

I had an unplanned csection and I had pizza for dinner, went into labor around 3am, went to the hospital around 8am, and had my csection around 8pm...I had nothing to eat but didn't feel hunger until the next morning...the hospital breakfast tasted so good bc I was so hungry.

We went out to eat at an Italian restaurant. I had pasta and calamari. The harder part was no drinking water after midnight. Thankfully my csection was at 8am

@Jennimac: thanks! Yea I'm a water fanatic so I'll probably be soooo thirsty - I'll try to control myself! Thanks for the heads up :) and I'm so horrible about fasting too...ive had to fast for my last few ultrasounds and I feel sorry for my husband haha!

@autumnlove: good to know! So I guess it really doesn't matter too much...the good news is my doc said I can drink water until 2 hours before, so at least there's that! I'm so hoping I can squeeze in an earlier appt, but it's not looking promising :(

Also, drink slowly when they let you drink again. I did not and my first experience with breastfeeding was me holding our baby, feeding her, while throwing up in a pan above her. My csection was supposed to be at 9:30 and was pushed back an hour. I was a bear about being hungry and thirsty. That's really all I kept talking about. ;)

I ate a nice lunch at Cheesecake Factory the day before my scheduled c-section. Shrimp scampi, vanilla bean cheesecake, and some appetizers. I think I ate leftovers for dinner?

No food or water after midnight was hard for me...my csection was scheduled for 1pm but it was pushed back to 3pm. I also had some complications PP and I wasn't able to eat or drink until 9pm!

Good luck! :-) <3

I didn't eat anything "special", I just ate what I would normally would. I found out the afternoon before that I was going to have a c-section the next morning. Good luck!

I am having a scheduled c section, and at the moment it looks like I'll be scheduled for late afternoon with no solids after midnight the night before (ugh, pregnant lady torture!) Anyway, trying to do some meal planning and wondering what would be a good thing to eat the night before? I assume anything I eat would be long digested by 4:30 the next afternoon, but any suggestions on what's best to eat the day before? Anything I should avoid?
