We had ours around lunchtime so we ordered from a BBQ place. They came to the house, set up everything and provided all paper goods and heating trays. It was perfect!

@Ash: @locavore_mama: either of you have a recipe for the breakfast casserole in crock pot? Sounds great and our oven is acting up so we have to turn the whole circuit off while we wait for the repair guy, so lots if slow cooker meals this week.

Ours was early afternoon, not too many people, but those that came were coming from out of town, so we did a late lunch/early dinner in a restaurant near the church. It was more expensive, but way easier than doing something myself, plus our apt is too small for a lot of people and the church was kind of far.

In your case, I would do brunch stuff. You could have bagels, cut up fruit and yogurt and granola, muffins or some easy pastry, all ready to go, and re-warm a quiche that you made the night before pretty quickly. Plus desserts because who doesn't want dessert?

Hours was a Saturday evening. My nana helped cater & everything was homemade.

Rigatoni with homemade sauce
Pulled pork
Ham BBQ
Salad
Hot sausage
Lasagna
Cheese/cracker spread
trays of cookies and desserts

We cooked sauce ahead of time, then a family friend came over and heated everything up. My aunt made a fresh salad before we all ate. I ordered a cake, buns and bread.

... There was a lot of people.

Ours was mid afternoon, and DD was only 6 weeks so I wanted to keep it as simple as possible. I ordered a cake and sandwiches from a local bakery and made a veggie/fruit tray. We served those with a variety of sodas and water.

Quiche?! Can be served warm or cold!!

Is there any way you can have someone come over while you are at the Christening? I was lucky to have a caterer/friend drop everything while we were gone, so it was nice to come home to everything (mid-afternoon, sandwiches and finger foods) all ready for us to snack on.

@Ash: brunch food? You can buy some pastries, premake quiche the night before. Can anyone pop home first to start the oven for reheating? Breakfast casserole in a crock pot?

The service was at 11, so it was almost 1 when we got back to our house. We had BBQ catered (pulled pork, chicken, rolls, mac n cheese, slaw, and green beans) and they dropped it off at 130. Then ordered a double layer cookie cake from Sam's ($17 which my parents brought since they have the membership). Then ater, soda, beer, and wine.

We did a full on Mexican taco bar. But a lot of the items could be made in advance and then reheated.

I would definitely do a brunch if yours is that early. There's a ton of things you could do and the majority could be made in advance.

We did lunch. We had a apartment, and so we had the party at a local park. My sisters were visiting, and I didn't want to spend the time cooking. So we ordered fried chicken from a local fried chicken place, a few pasta salads from a lunch/catering place, and a sheet cake (OMG amazing early gray mousse chocolate cake) from a local bakery. And cut up a watermelon.

If I didn't have family in town, I probably would've just made a few of the salads myself, and done some cookies and brownies for dessert. But ordering fried chicken definitely cut down on a lot of stress! And really wasn't too expensive.

Ours was around lunch. For DS we ordered from a local BBQ place - for DD we had a cook-out with burgers and hot dogs and that kind of stuff!

Sounds like you would need more brunch type foods - egg dishes and casseroles - maybe a waffle station

We're having family over after lo's baptism on Sunday and I'm really struggling with what to serve. Any ideas? The easier the better!

I should add, baptism is at 830.
