I didn't bring it, but the midwives used lemon oil ( put on a tissue for me to breathe in) when I was feeling fatigued during labor.

I also brought my own water bottle, lip balm and a hair tie.

I labored mostly at home (2 days), but we were at the hospital on day 3 for about 8-9 hours before my son was born. While there, we walked the halls a lot and we brought Up to watch, so I bounced on the ball while we watched it.

I took my own pillow (put a distinctive pillowcase on it so it stands out from the rest of the hospital pillows) and my own robe. With the messiness and discomfort after labor I just felt most comfortable in hospital gowns and it was nice to have my own robe to throw on for walks or visitors.

Bring a phone charger with a long cord! That was a comfort item for me since I used my phone a lot while I labored.

I brought more things for comfort for our stay in the hospital. During labor I don't think I used anything of my own, but I was similar to Lindsayinny that I was already in very active labor when I checked in.

Having my own pillow after was nice though!

@Anya: Our Bradley instructor said the same thing about scents! She recommended putting oils on a rag so if you no longer like it, you can remove the smell.

Our hospital had one of those massager things for us to use which was a good attempt to help the back pain. I packed a tennis ball as well because I didn't know they'd have the massager.

I brought my own pillow, which was really nice. I didn't really have time to use anything else (unscented massage oil). Last time I brought an iPod (all rooms had speakers).

I brought a head tingler (the multi pronged massager thing), music, and scented lotion and didn't use any of it! I labored mostly at home though and was only in the hospital for 2.5 hours. A tip I got from a doula was if you bring anything scented for comfort like oil or lotion make sure you seal it in a plastic bag and don't put it on your skin in case all of a sudden during labor you hate the smell and don't want it anymore!

I think it all depends on your labor. I made playliss and whatnot but was at 5cm when I got to the room and ignored all of it! We used a birth ball and lots of liquids to stay hydrated!

We are planning a med free birth in a hospital. My midwife said we could bring things to make the labor room more comfortable. I'm aware that some things may get... messy. I am thinking of a throw I've had for awhile, my own pillow, speakers for my phone, maybe LED candles. What else? What did you take or wish you had taken?
