Formula. We couldn't get a good latch, and she had jaundice, so we wanted to flush the toxins out of her system as quickly as possible.

I only bought a single breast pump because I stay at home and didn't think I'd really need it. Even with a shield, we could never get the hang of breastfeeding, so I ended up pumping exclusively for 10 months. In addition to a double pump, I needed a huge number of bottles, etc.

She had awful reflux until she was about 8 months old, so we needed hundreds of burp cloths. We also ended up buying those plastic bibs with a reservoir that toddlers normally use--she would throw up so much that those bibs actually worked a lot better than a regular cloth bib. And we could measure how much she was throwing up (gross I know) because doctors were so quick to point out that it always looks like more than it is. It turned out that she threw up about 3 oz. of about 5 oz. we gave her.

A breastfeeding pillow. I thought I could make do with the cushions and pillows already around the house but realized right away at the hospital that it wouldn't work.

Baby swing for us too - luckily someone gave me one they didn't need anymore, I thought it was just one more "baby container" and we already had a Mamaroo, a bouncer, a PnP, a RnP, a co-sleeper... man I had no idea, those swings are baby chloroform.

Also, hilariously: I didn't think we would need to buy newborn-size disposable diapers. We had a complete set of newborn cloth diapers we planned to use and I thought the diapers we'd get at the hospital would be sufficient to carry us through the meconium days, after which we could switch to cloth. I vastly overestimated how many diapers we would go home with and underestimated how often we would change her in the first week. DH had to go out and buy diapers immediately when we got home.

More than a few bottles, bottle warmer, pacifiers. Basically anything that you would normally avoid early on to avoid nipple confusion. I assumed breastfeeding would actually work.

A million pump bottles and sets of pump parts. A million. I rinsed them, tossed them in the fridge produce drawer and washed them all at once on the weekend. We don't have a dishwasher (appliance), but my husband the dishwasher (man) insisted on this arrangement.

Baby swing for sure! I didn't want to end up wig too much baby gear, but I ordered it in the middle of the night during her first wonder week and it's been amazing. She naps great in the swing and it's helped to get us on the EASY routine since 6 Wks. Now I'm trying to transition to crib naps though. Oy!

Wipes warmer. Didn't register for it but my SIL handed a bunch of stuff down and one of the items was a wipes warmer. My LOs hate diaper changes and hate cold wipes. Between disposable and cloth wipes we now have two ️Wipe warmers that I picked up the second through a consignment.

I did register for the rock n play and I got one but I didn't really get excited about it. Now that the Twins had trouble sleeping in the bassinets, the RnP have been great.

Pacifiers. We had a couple, but stocked up after she was born. Tons of burp cloths. I had no idea how many we'd go through daily. Newborn sized pants. We only had 3 pairs, which I figured would be plenty. Poor kiddo has my short legs and 0-3 pants are just now starting to not look ridiculous at 11 weeks.

A baby swing! We never got one, but later realized that he slept wonderfully in the one at daycare, and when we visited a friend with one. It's our big ticket item to buy next time.

...but absolutely did?

For us, it was a breast pump. I dragged my heels on getting one because I only *planned* to start pumping when I went back to work at 6 months pp. Lo and behold, DS lost a lot of weight and was very dehydrated and we needed to supplement. So, we found the nearest medical supply store about an hour away and frantically drove down there with our four day old (after begging for a lightning fast rx for it.)

You?
