I would just get a wall mount for it.
Get something like this for behind the TV: https://www.amazon.com/Datacomm-50-3321-WH-KIT-Organizer-Remodeling-Outlet/dp/B001PBCT48/ref=sr_1_15?ie=UTF8&qid=1471541030&sr=8-15&keywords=tv+wire+wall+mount to plug it in and run the wires down. Then I customized my bottom plate with items from monoprice.com or you can just get a brush plate to run the wires through to the components on the stand.

If we owned, we would wall mount. But since we are renting we have a stand similar to this:

http://www.wayfair.com/Weaver-TV-Stand-BRSD3469-BRSD3469.html

it is very sturdy with a wide base, we don't have it secured to the wall and it has been fine. We have two cats and a four year old, the stand doesn't budge at all.

Mounted to the wall. We ran the wires inside the walls down to the receiver unit, and the speaker wires under the floor to the surround sound rear speakers. I think you'd be fine with some wall tethers.

@lovehoneybee: Hey! Get a wire mold. Quick and easy solution to hiding those wires.

We mounted our TV on the wall as well during construction and they hid all the wires for us.

As one of our cats (10lbs) tipped over an old crt TV a few years ago, we wall mounted our new flat screen to the wall. The cords are inside the wall, and the TV is up out of baby reach (and has a cabinet above it so the cats can't try to jump onto the small ledge on top!)

Ours is wall mounted as well. The best thing is you can change the angle so I can watch the Olympics while I'm cooking dinner in the kitchen.

Ours is mounted to the wall via a mounting kit (can't remember where I bought it, probably Amazon or BJs since that's where I bought my TV).

I wall mounted one of ours, using a bracket kit. I had my dad run the wires behind the sheetrock.

Ours is mounted on the wall (we got a kit from BJ's), but we're still trying to figure out what to do with the exposed wires.

Hi everyone. We don't have kids, but we do have two cats, and securing our 60" TV to the wall has been on our to-do list for awhile. I'm just afraid that one day one of the cats could knock it down. May as well do it right so when we have kids, it's not a worry.

Did you secure it to a TV stand or to the wall? Did you secure the TV stand to the wall as well?

This is our TV stand:
http://content.blueport.com/ProductImages/0/297785.jpg?fit=inside%7C576:576&composite-to=center,center%7C576:576&background-color=white

Dimensions are: Width: 65'' Height: 32'' Depth: 18''

Thinking ahead to when we do have LO's running around, it would probably be better to have the stand secured to the wall as well? Or is it sturdy enough that this would be unnecessary?
