I had the same concerns about being naked/being seen naked and I have to say I really didn't care. I made sure to bring clothes to wear in the birthing tub even and pretty much the second I got to the birthing suite I stripped everything off to get in the shower. I just did not care! And afterwards everybody has seen everything by then anyway.

I wore a loose knee length skirt and a t shirt. I wore a backless hospital gown and a cotton dressing gown to cover my booty for the next day and night afterwards

when I was pushing I just pulled the skirt up and had a blanket on me between pushes. I kept my eyes shut so I didn't have to look at the faces of the people staring at my nether regions, lol.

@Cherrybee: I was a birth partner for my friend when she had her baby in Feb in Kent. She wore a night gown and she wasn't *made* to wear a hospital gown. That only happened when she was being prepped for emergency c-section. Knowing the NHS, they will happily let you were your own night gown to cut down on costs :)

@Cherrybee: ack! So glad you are ok! As for the outfit, I showed up at the hospital in amniotic fluid soaked jeans and a dirty shirt. It was H.O.T. I was so glad to get out of those damn pants that I gladly took the gown. I meant to change into my own clothes but honestly didn't give a crap at the end. I did put makeup on when I got my epidural though lol!!

Keep us informed, lady. Make that baby behave ;)

They had me change into a hospital gown. It makes it easy for checks, epidural, and labor. I was really glad when I threw up during labor and all they gave me was a small kidney shaped bowl (why that's the only size they have is beyond me) and well I ended up throwing up on myself. They just took my gown covered me with a blanket and gave me a new gown. Our hospital had ones that snapped on the sleeves so you can have lots of skin to skin contact.

I wore a comfy night gown dress thing through the first half of labor. Eventually it got to be too much hassle (when they started to want to continuously monitor me) and I switched to a gown. If I were you I might just throw in a really comfy nursing or sports bra to cover up top, if you want to.

@Cherrybee: I got my hair cut, nails done, bought a few new nursing bras and a new pair of (black and pink striped) pajamas that unbuttoned to the waist - I was ready to go!
For the labor, I wore the nursing bra and had a sheet over me for most of the time. (I started with the gown but it was so huge and just in the way) If I labored on foot I would've brought my short cotton bathrobe (I had complications so I couldn't be on my feet at all).
And I brought my makeup bag. No shame.

I had an unscheduled induction so, I arrived in yoga pants and a tee. I changed into their gown with my own undies, sleep bra and jersey robe from the Gap to cover my bum. At some point I lost the undies because they were a pain to deal with. I labored mostly in a sleep bra + gown. It was nice to have the bra on as the girls were quite sensitive.

i do recommend braiding your hair if you can! my nurse put my hair in a crazy ponytail and I looked like a complete LOON!

I started off with a maxi dress and had also packed a nightgown and a tee with yoga pants. Yeah...I ended up naked. Usually I'm a pretty modest person and would be mortified to be naked even in front of DH when in a hospital setting like that with all the monitors and what-not...but once was in labor, I did not give a damn, even with doctors and my mom in the room, it was not something that registered with me or made it into my thought process considering the pain level.

I went in wearing a skirt and tank top (it was August) and changed into a hospital gown (nothing underneath). They put the monitoring stuff on my belly from below, and I had a light blanket on top. By the end I had zero modesty, though. I didn't care who saw what (and by the end everyone saw everything).

Glad Baby Girl is okay!

I wore the hospital's gown and my own sports bra that I was wearing when I got there. Glad I did! Birth was so messy and their gown was just fine. When I walked from my delivery room to recovery room, they even gave me a hospital robe to wear so I didn't have to go down the hall with the back open and flapping, haha.

I'll probably show up to the birth center in a maxi dress, since it's been a pretty warm summer. However, once things get going, I plan on just wearing a hospital gown or free balling it, like a boss.

@Cherrybee: I'm glad the baby is okay. Won't the hospital provide you with a gown? I packing nursing friendly pajamas but did not end up wearing them. Hospital gowns were fine for labor and I didn't have to worry when they got messy. It was cold in my room so they put one on my front and one on my back. Easy access for the doctors and monitoring, also the gowns had snaps on the shoulders so just the top could be folded down for skin to skin/nursing.

I wore yoga pants, a maternity tank top and a maternity hoodie in the winter. I changed into a hospital gown when I was in triage. In the summer I went in for an induction so I just wore a dress and changed into a hospital gown before we started. But I probably would have worn a maternity skirt and a tank top!

@Cherrybee: No, it will be just like the movies. I considered putting those blotting papers in my hospital bag. I'm not sure at what point I think I will be thinking about blotting the shine on my forehead, but these are the irrational thoughts a 37 week pregnant woman has! Also, the logistics of getting popsicals to the hospital without melting. I agree, priorities.

I almost (only almost!) wish you did have the baby so you could tell her that you drove yourself to the hospital and daddy got dropped off by a rock and roll band tour bus.
