It was a weird very rhythmic feeling that was roughly the same intensity as regular cramps but more regularand constant for me.

Mine felt like period cramps also, although they didn't usually last long. Also I had a bunch of random pelvic twinges/pains in the early weeks. My doctor said you're more likely to cramp on the side you ovulated from, so your right ovary might be the reason the right side is worse. I also woke up with really bad cramps one night, convinced I was going to start my period, but have had 2 ultrasounds since and as far as I know, everything is good. It's totally normal to get freaked out!

I had a lot of cramping really early on - it freaked me out too!

The cramps were worst around weeks 6-7 -- i also had a little spotting at that time, then at 8 weeks they basically stopped.

One or two nights I woke up to REALLY bad cramping that lasted 15-20 minutes. I was sooooo worried. But all turned out OK (28 weeks now).... i wasn't a big water drinker, so I really started drinking a LOT of water to make sure it wasn't dehydration, and I just tried to take it easy when I was feeling extra crampy.

but they felt just like the cramps I get before my period.

@TaylorTot: Thank you SO much for starting this post! I'm having the same worry... my cramps are definitely stronger than my normal pre-AF cramps and it's scaring the beejeezus out of me! I'm glad to know that it's not abnormal!

Thanks, ladies! I am thrilled to be pregnant, but the cramping had me a little nervous. I guess the worrying gives me good practice for worrying about my LO for . . . well . . . probably the rest of my life!

Mine were similar to what you've described. I had an overall achy cramp, that was fairly mild, but definitely noticeable. It would come on and off. No where near as intense as period cramps. I also had a little more poking-type feelings on my right side. At some point, def before 8 weeks, I got a very intense lower backache. It felt like a thick steel bar had put there in place of my spine. That went away after 2 or 3 days.

Mine felt like period cramps. I also had these unbelievably horrible gas pains. Of course it scared me and I overanalyzed every single pain. My cramps finally went away at 8 weeks and then morning sickness set in!

I should add that I never had awful period cramps - just an uncomfortable, crampy ache. My early pg cramps were a crampy, consistent ache - not a gut wrenching pain.

Mine were very different from period cramps. It was less like cramping (a contraction of the uterus, etc.) and more just like a dull persistent ache all the way across, like I had to go to the bathroom. And it was concentrated sharply on the left side at times. Turns out at my first ultrasound that's where the egg had implanted.

I would totally describe it as a side stitch at times. It was worse and different than regular cramps. I also get regular period cramps up and down my thighs so I knew it wasn't that because that didn't happen in early pregnancy.

Mine felt like period cramps but were more intermittent. My usual period cramps are constant. My preg cramps were stronger, enough for me to kind of get worried, and would come and go.

I hope yours turn out to be pregnancy cramps! Good luck!

Mine also felt like period cramps, although they never got as strong as regular period cramps, and they didn't cause any gastrointestinal issues, which usually happens for me when I have my period.

Mine definitely felt like period cramps. I had them for the majority of the first trimester. I also had round ligament pain early on (5 weeks or do) - it feels like crampy, pulled muscle type feeling, a little higher thanyour underwear line (leg). It's the ligaments that support the uterus getting stretched as your uterus grows! All normal, ask your OB if you're worried or have bleeding though!

Mine were HORRID, waking me up in the middle of the night. I have never had cramps that strong with any period, and was convinced something was wrong. Turns out I was pregnant (still am!) and they went away completely around 7 weeks.

Mine felt just like period cramps. Thought for sure I was going to get my period before I got the bfp. These cramps lasted through 8 weeks and then went away.

I know some "light cramping" is normal, but having never been pregnant, I can't help but analyze every twinge. My cramping is not as bad as AF cramps, but it is noticeable. I have a little bit all across my abdomen, but on my right side it has been worse. Also, my right side has what I would call almost a stitch in my side sometimes, and my lower back is achey on the right side. I'm thinking maybe my little one has burrowed in on the right and that's why I'm more achey/crampy there then on the left.

ETA: I've already gotten a BFP. I'm just not sure how much/what types of cramping are normal between say 4-8 weeks, or so.

What are/were your early pregnancy cramps like?
