My my mom was the best SAHM ever! :)

My dad is in special risk insurance. He insures mostly major ski areas, and ice arenas.

I don't have any children yet, but I would be a SAHM if I could be. I work in politics, so not like either of my parents. They don't know where I came from!

My dad is a professor of biostatistics at Columbia university. My mom worked at IRS. I guess I'm similar to my dad because I have my doctoral degree as well, and I sometimes use stats in my field (psychology), but I have trouble with basic arithmetic, haha, so our similarities don't go too much further.

Dad is in sales management for a health insurance company, mom taught first grade until kids came along and then was a SAHM (now an empty-nest homemaker I guess).

I worked in PR for a hospital system until LO was born, and I still occasionally do some freelance work in PR/writing for my old company. But I'm a SAHM, which I love most of the time. I might go back to school after my youngest LO is in elementary school to get a teaching degree, because I have a BA in English and I'd love to teach high school.

My dad was an executive for multiple Big Pharma companies before retiring. My mum was an accountant and was a senior exec with on of the Big 4 but then she retired, went back to school and became a social worker. I admire her so much but think she is nuts!

I studied engineering but now work for the British Government. My role encompasses facets of what they both did so I suppose I somewhat took after them.

my mom is an admin for the general counsel and board of a health and insurance company. My dad is a free lance graphic designer, electrician, handyman and manages a gun club/range. He started out as an airbrush artist in the 80's and now works primarily on computers but dabbles in painting as a hobby.

I caught the design bug from him and went to college for fashion design which consisted of a lot of art classes. He was adamant that i not become a "starving artist like him" luckily i got a great job right out of college in a more technical aspect of my field.

My dad was a pilot--first military, commercial for Braniff, then private for a really rich family, and then back to commercial for American Airlines.

My mom was an elementary teacher and taught almost every grade and subject over her career.

They also owned a large daycare together while they worked their other full time jobs. Over 100 kids were enrolled at the peak.

I'm in education, and I was definitely influenced by my parents' non-traditional job schedules. Because both of my parents got more than the american standard- 2-weeks-of-vacation-time, I really don't think I could have ever gone into a career track where I only get 2 weeks a year, haha. I was spoiled in that way growing up, I guess.

The first few years my dad was a salesman. For a while he went door to door selling utensils & vacuums, then he sold cars for a while & I'm sure a few other random things. Then he was an electrician for about 10 years but kept finding drama within the company, hurt his back very badly & got laid off do he started working for a couple making signs, banners, tshirts, business cards, that kind of thing. He eventually bought their business, did that on his own for about 5 or 6 years then sold to another up and coming sign business in our small town & he now currently works for them doing most of the customer service & helping to teach them how to effectively run their business. He's been there for about 4 years. He is currently about half way to completing his realtors license though & will do that soon. He's extremely personable, picks up on how to do things very quickly & is sort of a jack of all trades.

My mom was a SAHM for aboyt 19 years. Now she works as manager at Christian book store & loves it!

I'm personable like my dad but not as smart or quick as he is. I SAH like my mom & genuinely find joy in caring for others like her.

My mom mostly worked for the school system. She ran the latchkey program then got a job as a teacher's aid then a MHDH aid. She also randomly had second jobs and/or summer jobs working at places like a video store, jewelry counter at walmart, etc. She retired last year but thinks she may get a part time job at some point to keep busy (thinking starbucks or something).

My dad worked his way up through the ranks of the maintenance crew at the local zoo and by the time I was in school was superintendent of operations for the zoo. He retired from that when I was in college and is now the manager of a construction company.

I don't know that I have any similarities to my mom's job since she really always had more "jobs" than careers. My job isn't at all like my dad's jobs since his jobs are all about building/maintaining stuff and my job is (was?) all academic (lawyer). But I think my dad and I are very similar in the way we think, we just took different paths.

ETA: thinking about it, my mom spent most of her life taking care of kids and right now I'm a SAHM, so I guess I sort of turned out like her after all. irony! lol

I am in Construction/Engineering, so I did not follow in their footsteps. I think my mom wanted to be a math teacher though? She made sacrifices to be a SAHM though, and didn't get to finish her schooling until much later in life, and then didn't change careers.

My mom was a waitress when I was born and became a restaurant manager shortly after (she worked at Coco's). She is still a restaurant manager (different restaurant) and works 50-60 hours a week, on her feet much of the day. My stepdad is the executive chef of the small chain she now works for. His hours are even longer.

My dad has done odd jobs over the years. I know he was a high school basketball coach when I was little, but his alcoholism got in the way of traditional work, so now he mostly paints the exterior of houses under the table.

I don't think I really followed in either of their footsteps! I was actually very careful not to.

My dad works with loan processing software for banking. It took me 30 years to figure that out. Banking technology shifted so after many years as a Vice President of a major international bank he was laid off and had a scary few years. But he now works for a consulting company that processes loans for smaller banks that haven't upgraded technology yet. He's hoping to work til 70.. just a few years left... before he retires.

My mom was a nurse before she left Korea... then she came here and did a whole bunch of random jobs in healthcare before settling down in private dental practice management. She "retired" for a while when they moved for my dad's new job, but now she's working again.

my dad was a store manager in retail. once my brother & i were grown and the company was closing brick & mortar stores, he went back to school to become a teacher. he'd always wanted to teach, but couldn't afford the pay cut until recently. now he's an amazing middle school social studies teacher, i'm very proud of him & happy that he's able to do something he loves now that he's older.

my mom is management in maternity at a hospital. she's amazing at her job, but i worry about how the stress of being on call 24/7 impacts her health.

i was in school for education before my dad was, but then i decided public schools weren't a good fit for me. we share an interest in youth and education, he's better at following rules than i am, but that may have also come with age. i'm back in school now hoping to get my degree in nursing like my mom. it's funny though because she didn't want to go to nursing school when she was starting out, my grandparents pushed it, and truth be told, i don't want to go to nursing school either! i think i'll be good at it, i think there are some very specific pockets of nursing that i have enough passion for the cause that i can be very effective, but it's a pragmatic choice for me, not a calling. i've never felt a calling for anything that paid enough that i could justify it. she does find the nursing part of her job to be very rewarding though.
