I plan on wearing a hospital gown the entire time I'm there. I really don't feel like ruining my own clothes. But my bag is packed with tshirts (maternity and nonmaternity), yoga pants and socks.

I wore the hospital gown and a sports bra most of the time I was in labor & in recovery. (I didn't want a nursing bra when I didn't know what size I'd end up being, and the sports bra I wore was darn comfortable, and easy to lift up to nurse.) I brought a robe and other clothes, but never used it because I was too hot during labor & as I was recovering. The hospital actually gave me a robe of the same material as the gown to wear when I walked during labor and that worked wonderfully. After the c-section I had compression boots on for 24 hrs to prevent blood clots, and the incision/staples had to be checked often, then removed, so it was easier/impossible to mess with wearing anything else but the hospital gown. Going home, I wore some size L sweat pants (I'm a s/m usually, so these fit and were comfortable even with the incision), and a maternity tank, and a loose hoodie. I looked like hell, but I was comfortable and at that point, that's all that mattered.

I'm planning to bring a robe that I bought specifically to wear while pregnant that I plan on leaving behind at the hospital (it's one of those zip-front, sleeveless old-lady robes).
After delivery, I think I'll have a couple comfy maternity tees/tanks to wear and some cropped yoga pants (that are already on their way out, so I don't care if they get "dirty").
Then a casual cotton dress or something to wear home. I'm due at the end of May, so I think yoga pants might be a little warm.

I just wore the hospital gown. I was stuck to my IV and there was no way to get out of the darn thing. It ended up not being that much of a biggie, I was in too much pain to care.

Word to the wise for those who haven't given birth yet, make sure your going home outfit is something that would still be comfortable if you end up having an incision from a c-section. It was something I wished I had thought about and I looked like such a mess going home because I had nothing comfortable to wear, lol.

When I delivered, I wore the shirt I wore into the hospital, a black and ivory striped top. I wore the hospital gown the first night then changed into my own short gown. I was burning hot the entire time I was there and the gown was so uncomfortable.

I also plan to stay in the hospital gown. I also purchased a cheap lightweight bathrobe from Target to wear over my gowns-- both for warmth and for modesty's sake. I plan to be up and walking around the hospital during labor, so I feel like I need the robe to cover up a bit!

For after labor I also packed a couple of zip or button-down sweatshirts and sweaters to serve the same purpose as the robe.

(@regberadaisy: My robe is thin and from Target. I think it cost maybe $24? The brand name on it is Gillian & O'Malley.)

When I had major surgery (thoracic surgery with chest tubes, etc) I was out of the hospital gown by 6 hours post-op, so I assume I will feel the same after I give birth.

I plan on bringing some nursing PJ's (I have 3 sets, so probably 2 of 3), also I am going to bring some yoga pants (2-3 pairs) and a couple nursing tanks. All the bottoms will be black, so I don't have to worry about staining.

For going home, it will depend on the weather, but if it is nice, maybe a black jersey dress and sandals.

@regberadaisy: I don't know about your hospital, but ours has gowns that open in the back but have ties, kind of like a wrap dress, and you can tie it closed on the side, near your hip. There's also no neck tie-- it snaps closed along the tops of the shoulders, making it easy to open to nurse. I actually love it and wish I had one for home!

I plan on bringing a few pairs of loose fitting yoga pants and long tanks or nursing tanks for the hospital. Who knows if I'll wear that stuff or instead if I'll just wear the hospital gown, but I'll at least have the option. I will probably just wear yoga pants home, too, or maybe a jersey dress - all of that trauma to the whooha and I doubt I'll want to wear anything else!

@yoursilverlining:
I'm glad I'm not the only one! I feel like I'm wearing a ugly off shoulder dress half the time. Do they sell them in different sizes? I as under the assumption they only made them in one size. I would go to a medical supply store and pick up a small size one if it was available!!!

On a related note. I've been looking for a THIN robe to bring to the hospital that's under $20. Any suggestions? I've checked Marshalls/TJ Maxx, Target but nothing yet. Maybe now that spring is here there'll be more of them.

I love hospital gowns! Haha. I don't know why. But I did bring a nightgown/robe combo from Motherhood which I changed into after my first shower the next day, which was SO nice. It's a short gown that also has a nursing top so it was nice to change into after the first shower. I totally loaded up on the disposable underwears (two or three at a time) and the huge peach pads so I didn't have a problem of leaking onto the nightgown.

I brought sweatpants and a hoodie to go home in, but I so wished I brought maternity pants or a dress, nothing that binds at the waist.

I just wore the hospital gown with my soft robe over it whenever I had to leave the room for whatever reason. I would HIGHLY recommend bringing a soft/small robe. I didn't have as much blood oozing out because I had a c-section so it didn't get on my robe or anything. For going home, I'll wear the same thing I did with my first. Stretch waist yoga pants and a cotton v-neck shirt. :)

I got 2 very long tanks that go past my bottom from target to wear... I'll be here at home so I'm not too worried about bottoms, but if I were I would get something comfy.

Being comfortable in labor can make a huge difference in how fast & easily you progress. =)

Even if you just take a robe from home to wear while you labor or something that reminds you of your at home environment that can help too.
