I also recommend a walker, or even a few different kinds. We have the alligator one and a cosco seat type one (that they are in more sparingly) and a baby buggy one. But I like the alligator best.

But in the interim? An overturned laundry basket works wonders. They can stand up on it and then push it everywhere smoothly, and it's super stable. We pretty much always keep one in the family room for the kids.

@pelikila: @Crumbs: AGREE! that's my first reaction - just get a walker and let him stumble around the house! I'd get a push walker instead of one that allows him to sit because I read that the one that let's him sit down will actually hinder his development.

Another thing is take the game to the next level (kudos to our ex-nanny): stand him a few steps away from you while you are sitting on the floor facing him (he could be leaning to a couch on his back or something). Have your hands out, and tell him to take steps toward you without holding onto stuff. This may bring the excitement to a different level, help him to take steps and walk on his own without holding onto stuff, and at least you are just sitting at the same spot without moving around the entire house! Do it on a carpeted floor as he's going to keep falling. Our LO walked unassisted around 11-12 months thanks to our ex-nanny.

My lo was like that too. It is sooooo exhausting! We usually let her do it though because I felt like practice would get her to the real thing quicker and then I'd be free. I was wrong.... She practiced for months. She didn't walk on her own until 17 months.

Since he's already walking, I suggest a push walker. This one seems to have been popular from a previous thread:

We got a Y bike and it was a bit tricky but she could hold onto it and use it to walk around.

... But he needs me to do it.

My 8 month old is completely obsessed with standing up, holding onto people's fingers and walking. Obsessed. He used to be fine just standing up but now he must be walking to be completely happy. He'll sit and play with his toys for a few minutes and he started crawling last weekend so he'll crawl to things that he wants but, especially when he gets tired and fussy, he'll whine or cry until we stand him up and walk him around the house.

It's exhausting. Plus you can't really get anything else done when you're walking a baby around the house all day. It also kind of frightens me that he's already essentially throwing a fit when we don't do it. He's normally a very happy baby and when he's standing up and walking, even when fussy, he's all smiles and giggles.

Is there anything I can or should do about it or should I just keep indulging him every time he wants to take a stroll? Lol
