@lavender: Oh, great! Thanks for replying. I think it'll be good, too, because it packs up small.

@looch: I'm pretty sure we have one of these. I'll add it to my list! Thanks.

Another thing I thought of that would have been helpful (I am planning a trip to WDW spending some time at the pool) and people are recommending chamois towels. They dry super quick and if you wring them out, they are dry again!

@allison: We used that beach tent last year it worked out really well. It has a nice little "window' in the back and zips down for a nice cross breeze when your inside the tent

@allison: Personally I prefer something that's more open so LO can see everybody and stay entertained while staying in the shade..... but for you and your needs the tent seems to make more sense. Maybe you can bring a little battery operated fan just in case it's super hot in there?

protection from the sun in all forms, baby shades, an umbrella and sunscreen.
I would definitely put him in a swim diaper

@allison: That tent should work out really well! That is pretty close to what ours look like and we were able to fit in a chair and a few towels laid out for him.

Sweet! I opened up my computer this morning to several replies! Love it when that happens :)

@looch: Yeah, I'm definitely trying to avoid over-packing. I was thinking, because he was so young, we might not need all the normal beach stuff just yet.

@littlecasita1122: @yellowbird: @artbee: would this tent be good? http://www.amazon.com/Coleman-Road-Trip-Beach-Shade/dp/B0009PUTIE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1367242691&sr=8-1&keywords=colman+sun+shade

I was thinking it might be nice to have something that I could close up to bf in (he likes to unlatch and look around a lot, so I'm not super comfortable public feeding right now). But it might get hot in there...

The apartment is across the street from a state park that has a beach, so we have to walk/bike a little ways to get there. So everything we take needs to be pretty portable and things we can set up/take down every day (vs. a big metal canopy thing).

I brought my 8 month old to the beach, i swear I packed a ton of stuff and used very little.

The only thing I would consider to be essentials are a biig sheet for the beach, an umbrella and a small inflatable tub to stick their feet in.

We lug so much to the beach! For lo we have a canopy for shade. My doctor oked sunscreen at 3 months as long as you wash it off after. Swim diaper is a must .... I had trouble finding one when lo was that young though. We bring a big beach blanket, and extra blankets. I hear baby powder helps with sticky sand bit we haven't tried it. I also always keep a sun hat on lo. I bring her sunglasses but she never keeps them on.

We went with our 11 month old to the beach over my spring break. You will definitely want sun protection. We just got a big umbrella, and for DD we brought a sun hat and a rash guard. Also a big beach blanket is great for sitting on and spreading out w/ your baby without getting them all covered in sand.

How fun! Definitely need something like that, or a rash guard and shirts. A hat would be really good, too. It might be q good idea to purchase a shelter or canopy so he can get away from the sun. @yellowbird: you're correct, you should avoid sunscreen on babies under 6 months because it affects how they regulate their body temp. But my pedi said it's fine as long as you wash it off well afterwards.

My LO was almost 3 months when we took him on our week long beach vacation last summer. I dressed him in a rash guard and swim trunks but that wasn't necessary as we didn't take him into the ocean. Definitely get a swim diaper if you do plan on taking him in the water - we found reusables at Target and I think they have a small size that would work for 4 months.

He was never in the sun as we have a beach hut that we set up (similar to this, but we found one much cheaper at a local discount store: http://www.amazon.com/Shelter-Beach-Cabana-Carry-Portable/dp/B005BYG6I0/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1367195216&sr=8-2&keywords=beach+hut)

Since he couldn't sit up on his own yet, he just laid on a few towels under the hut and then I also propped him up in one of our beach chairs with a towel behind him for a little bit. We played with small toys I kept in my diaper bag (no special beach toys).

We're planning on taking our LO this summer, but I have no experience so far. We have a big beach canopy and will keep her under there most of the time. Since your LO will be so small I don't think sunscreen is recommended before 6 months. Correct me if I'm wrong anyone. So you'll probably want to stay in the shade. For ocean/pool time def get a swim diaper. What if he decides to poo when you're in there. I'm sure no one else wants to swim in that!

We're bringing an inflatable kiddie pool to put under the canopy to let baby splash around while still being in the shade.

My in-laws just signed a lease on a beach apartment! We live about 9 hours away, but we're planning on taking several trips to visit this summer. I have never gone to the beach with an infant, so I don't know what I need. He's 3 months old right now, so he'll probably be 4 months the first time we go. Does he need something like this?

http://www.amazon.com/Coral-Protective-NoZone-Fuxia-months/dp/B00697X0MS/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_S_nC?ie=UTF8&colid=3KB5MLJNFVEJ9&coliid=I3PHAFZIN374P1&psc=1

Or is that unnecessary at that age? Will I just want to keep him in the shade the whole time? Speaking of, what should I get for that? A big umbrella? A tent?

We're not planning to put him in the pool, but maybe the ocean. So would it be cool to just take him naked? Or do we need swim diapers?

I'd love it if you'd tell me what you needed and what you could've done without when you took your infant to the beach. Thanks!
