My son went to a nature based program, so they would send us an email of the things they needed based on their activities.

For the most part, though, we just kept one change of clothes there. During the cold months, a pair of snow pants.

Ditto on name labels on everything. We use NameBubbles for food containers and clothes.

I'd suggest a hat to leave in the cubby at school. Those kinds of things we never remember to bring home or back so it's easiest to have duplicates.

@NorCalWayfarer:
In addition to what others have mentioned, its nice if you LO has a backpack so they can carry home their art work and such.
Aside from that I think it all depends on the rules of the daycare and what they allow but you will definitely need the change of clothing including underwear and socks, and then bedding.
LO's current preschool didnt allow water bottles although her previous day care did.

@NorCalWayfarer: we live in the desert, and I thought my lo would use her water bottle a lot- but they don't like them at school. Due to risk of sharing. Cups are easier to use for the kiddos, and the teachers are vigilant about not mixing them up. She still gets plenty of water, even on heavy out door data, just don't be surprised if they say no bottle!

Ours is a nature-based preschool so she mostly needed clothes appropriate for being outside for long stretches of time (sometimes all 3 hours of class even in our snowy winters.)

We needed to provide sunscreen and bug spray but mostly just clothes and rain/snow suits.

My LO is starting in a couple weeks too but since it is connected to her current daycare, I assume the things she will need will be the same. We currently send in: sheet and a light blanket for nap (cleaned at the end of each week), at least 3 sets of extra clothes (currently 6 sets and an extra pair of shoes since she is recently potty trained), sunscreen, and sun hat. Labels for all the clothes. Also our daycare provides diapers but I believe the preschool requires you to send in your own if they are not potty trained.

My son naps at preschool so we send a sheet & blanket each week. I like that he has a backpack to transport that stuff so I don't have to. We do like @PinkElephant: in regards to extra clothes. We also keep a pair of those slip-on shoes from Old Navy at school for accidents. I like to leave a hat there too so that I'm not trying to remember bringing it back and forth.

@PinkElephant: That's a good idea to send a couple of outfits you don't care about ever seeing again! Thanks!

@travelingnanny: I'm thinking he'll get a lot of use out of the water bottle, it's been over 100 degrees here all week and they usually spend a lot of time outdoors :shocked:

Just a change of clothes or two. We sent a water bottle for my NK's first year but she never used it. It just sat in their cubby the whole time. They have their own cups that they use at snack. It isn't like daycare. Maybe your school is different though.

A couple of spare sets of clothes (cheap Carters/Target outfits) that you don't care about.....we had to leave a set or two at school, and this time around with DD2, I want to send things I don't care if I don't see til the end of the year. DD1 rarely had a potty or art accident, which meant she got changed...and the clothes I sent to school stayed completely out of our at-home rotation!

DS (2 years old) is going to start preschool in a couple of weeks (just 2 days a week) and I want to make sure we are all prepared! I bought him a new water bottle (to keep at school) and labels. Preschool provides lunch and afternoon snack. What else couldn't you/your child live without for preschool? Thanks!
