@MrsBrewer: they did! They had a sign out on the patterns, actually. I did find out that it's only for "regular" simplicity patterns, not the "sew easy" or the "burdick" (spelling?) Simplicity patterns, but I did pick up 5 for $5. Sale is through Monday or Tuesday, so you still have time.

All their other patterns were 40% off too, so that's not bad. But you really can't beat 5 for $5, considering patterns are normally in the $8-10 range.

@Anagram: oh wow!! So any simplicity patterns are 5 for $5?! Did they honor it at the store?

@MrsBrewer: it's weird...on the Joann website under the "weekly add" or if you click on the Presidents Day Doorbusters banner, it shows the Simplicity 5 for $5 patterns sale, and then it has a "shop now" button, but when I press the button, there's no way no add the deal!

That sucks.

I stopped in after work and picked up 5 random patterns. I don't even really sew so I was hoping to convince my mom to help me make 1 set of matching summer dresses. But now that I have 5 cute patterns, I'm thinking of maybe attempting a few on my own.

@avivoca: yeah, there are no good pattern/fabric shops near me unless I go into Manhattan (not doing that with two kids just for fabric). But I commute to work out in the suburbs and I can make a detour to hit a Joann's out here. I want to preplan some summer patterns so I can wait for one of their big pattern sales--I've seen sales there where you can get Simplicity patterns for $1.99.

@Cole: And here's a cheaper pattern that is similar without the ruffled straps. Less that $5 isn't bad! http://www.simplicity.com/new-look-pattern-6385-babies-dress-romper-and-panties/6385.html#sz=90&start=49

@avivoca: that site has some cute stuff too! I'm cheap and wanna use coupons and pay less than $9 a pattern though. But if I don't find anything else I love, there are a few dresses on that site that would do.

@Cole: dang. I was hoping it would be easy to find. I know one of the lines has "vintage" patterns and I found some cute vintage romper patterns in the past. maybe it was McCalls?

I'd call it a pinafore dress but I've hunted for a pattern without much success so far. Will you keep me posted if you find one? I love this style but holy moly the boutique prices are beyond my budget!

I'm looking for a toddler dress pattern that is similar to this style dress. Basically I want a similar front, and a back that only has 2 crossed straps. What is this style called?

Is it a pinafore dress? An apron dress? something else? Google search for apron dress turned up this image but not a particular pattern. I'm stopping off after work at a fabric store and will only have about 5 minutes to run in and look through the patterns, so I want the right term so I can use the index.

Any ideas?
