It was weird at first but I'm used to it now, and the bonus is that all do DHs family that is older is called "auntie and uncle" so if I can't remember eir names it doesn't matter. </p> <p>My husband calls my mom "nana" since that is what the grand kids call her (and what our LO will call her). DH has really made a lot of effort to be close to my mom and he calls her "Mom". Both my mother and I are so touched by it. DH would like it if I called my MIL "Mom" so I try but after calling her 'Nana' for all these years it's hard to remember! She and I are both pretty shy so it can be awkward at times!! Now I call her halmoni, which is grandma in Korean, since LO is usually around. She signs my cards, and when she calls, she identifies herself to me as mommy, which cracks me up. I think the fact that I am Chinese and the Korean words don't have much significance to me makes it easier. I think my parents sign stuff mom and dad but DH calls them by their first names. He's considered calling them mom and dad too.
