I have been suffering from SPD over the past month and my big-girl is resting on my sciatic nerve most of the time, so shifting around is very, VERY painful.

I have been getting prenatal massages and she showed me a wonderful way to lay down to get some relief.

I HAD been using a body pillow shaped like a J, but since my belly is so round these days, the J just juts out and either falls off the bed or pushes my husband out of bed :) I also had been lying on my side and positioning the J and/or pillows between my legs while lying in a semi fetal position.

The massage therapist has shown me how to lie down on my side completely straight...i.e., I'm up on my hip, but I'm not bent at all at the waist. She then places two king sized pillows on top of each other right in front of my legs and I bend my TOP leg and allow it to 'fall' over the pillows. I then cradle another pillow in my arms to support my chest.

Hope some of that made sense...I know it is hard to visualize just from my explaining it. The key for me was having my lower leg and my hips and my shoulders and neck all in alignment as opposed to being bent forward and having the pillows on the bed and not between my legs.

My pain was horrible. I tried pillows, different positions, different beds. No luck. I did tell myself it wouldn't be as painful as birth though. Lol

Towards the end of my pregnancy, I slept in my recliner. The reclined position didn't block blood flow to baby and it took the pressure off my hips. Before the recliner, I slept with a really stiff giant floor pillow (36" x 36") behind my back in bed. It was slanted at 45 degrees which pretty much simulated the same recliner position. I also had a pillow under my knees.

I suffer from SPD (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Symphysis_pubis_dysfunction) and so have horrible hip pains. Pillows don't help, and I also suffer from insomnia, so the only thing that helps me sleep at night is Unisom (at the recommendation of my OB). I'm not saying meds is the way to go, but if it gets bad, you might want to look into it. Good luck!

I use a small, decorative pillow from our bed and put that between my knees at night. A regular sized bed pillow made it too hard to roll over, but a smaller pillow seems to help.

I sleep with a king-sized pillow in front of me, under my belly, and between my legs, and a king-sized pillow under my head, and wrapped around my back. That way, I can move from leaning on my front to leaning on my back without rearranging the pillows. Sometimes, I also turn on the heating pad for a while, which helps when the pain is really bad.

I would love to hear what other ladies say about this! I also bought a regular long body pillow that I put behind me and kind of "lean back" to take a little pressure off my hips but it doesn't totally get rid of the pain. I also find that when I sleep with a pillow between my legs, its better.

Anyone else experiencing night time hip pain that runs down your upper leg? What do you do? It's just the extra weight resting on one area for a period of time, but it's pretty uncomfortable, and wakes me up several times a night. So far I've been switching sides and have one of those long body pillows, though it's not a "real" preggie pillow. Do those things help?
