@catgirl: he's almost 2 so I feel like he is at the perfect age! My 4.5 year old still likes it too but I think he is less excited about it these days.

We usually make sure to do the gym so they can go in the daycare. Sometimes we go to the indoor pool as well. We always seem to have an errand to do, so we mostly just take them with us to do that and then go out to lunch after or something. Then, just find a toy or activity they haven't done in a while and try to get them to play with that. Oh and TV ;)

@winniebee: Jealous! When I was a nanny in college I went all the time with the girls I took care of! Do you feel like there is enough for your younger son to enjoy it? Hoping to take DD on one of our upcoming trips.

Everything listed in the comments above, plus - it can actually be really beneficial for little kids to spend a lot of time playing in a comfortable/safe space at home. Particularly during the 0-2 years. So don't discount that!

Besides the standard library/kids museum/trampoline park ideas, we also have a solid stash of ideas to make a day at home feel special:
- Baking and cooking are fun for my 3 year old and can take up a whole day if I need it to - picking a recipe, going to the store for ingredients, cooking, etc.
- Pajama days (literally the only thing different than a regular day is that we wear pajamas but my toddler thinks this is the BEST and talks about it weeks later).
- A movie in the middle of the day complete with popcorn popped in the air popper
- A really involved craft project I wouldn't ordinarily have time for - we've liked the craft kits from Alex Toys

If I were you I would go to the Children's Museum!

We don't have a children's museum here so we typically go to the play space at the mall, barnes and noble for the train table, library for story time or to play with the toys, or an indoor playground. If it's warmish sometimes we'll just play in the rain - DD loves jumping in puddles or watching things float in them.

I live in the PNW so it rains like 8 months out of the year. We're lucky that we have a lot of cafes that do kids bands in the mornings during the week. So we've been frequenting those quite a bit this fall. We also do library toddler groups and indoor play spaces. If it's not raining I'll bundle LO up and brave the park or put him in the stroller and walk around the local shops. Our zoo does a deal on 2nd thursdays so I take advantage of that if it's not raining.

Our usual go-to is the mall; it's not even a 10 min drive, there's a small playground inside, she loves climbing onto the cars, visit Disney store....

Or our libraries let you reserve passes for various places so we'd go to the children's museum and what not.

I'm trying to come up with some ideas for the weekend. We've been lucky to have really nice weather all summer and through the fall on weekends. We usually spend time outdoors and this fall have done apple picking, fairs, pumpkin festivals, etc. I think I have amnesia because I can't for the life of me remember what we do when it's crappy outside! Kids museum....bowling.....?? My youngest is a little too young for the movie theatre.

What do you do during crappy weather?
