Check out Janet Lansbury's blog and her book No Bad Kids. It was a total game changer for me just before two when I discovered her. Seriously, her techniques are like magic. No time outs, which I find much easier.

We try to do time outs where DD has to sit on the step for two minutes to "think about how she is acting." They worked for awhile and we were able to calmly resolve things after but lately time outs have been escalating the situation by 1000. As soon as she's in time out she will try to run away, rant, scream, cry, occasionally flop and hurt herself. So obviously time outs are not working at the moment for us.
