@Mommy Finger: it's really not bad after you get the hang of it. And changing in public isn't bad, if there's not a private sink I just wipe out with a baby wipe or some toilet paper in a pinch. My period is also sometimes lighter and shorter with the cup

@snowjewelz: The first pp period is awful. Definitely pick up some chux pads to help with overflow.

I double up with a menstrual cup and a pad these days, plus I try to take ibuprofen around the clock for the first three days. If the cramps get terrible, I will heat up my rice sock and use it at work, but I try not to do that because then it's super obvious that I'm cramping.

@MamaBear87: I keep thinking about trying these but haven't pulled the trigger! I still have this fear that my flow is so heavy for the first few days that I would have to deal with it at work and the thought of that terrifies me.

@Mommy Finger: @KT326: have either of you tried menstrual cups? They hold way more than tampons and pads. I no longer have to worry that I'm going to bleed through whatever I'm wearing at night. It's awesome!

@snowjewelz: I'm an odd case though, I have fertility issues and have only ever had 4 periods on my own in my entire life (without being induced by BC or provera). Three of them were after having kids and two of them lasted 30+ days. Thankfully the most recent one was actually a normal cycle, only lasted 6 days.

@Mommy Finger: that is actually a great idea. I never would have thought of that!

I had the period from hell after not having one for two years ( I bled for 32 days straight!!). The cramps were awful but I couldn't be tied to a corded heating pad at work. I found these one time use heating pads that stick to the inside of your underwear and they were a godsend. I also had to double up and wear both a pad and tampon so I wouldn't bleed through, especially at night.

I drink one cup of red raspberry leaf tea a day (even when not on my period) and it helps SO much. I typically have extreme cramping but I've pretty much eliminated it now. I guess RRL tea strengthens the uterus which helps with cramps...? Honestly, not sure on the science but it works for me.

@snowjewelz: my IUD makes my period so light now, it’s great. Between two pregnancies and extended nursing, then the IUD, I have had ONE regular period since October 2012!

I'm not sure if it helps with cramps, but a calcium-magnesium supplement is supposed to help with general PMS so it might be worth a try? I'm only on my 2nd month taking it (and I wasn't great about remembering last month) so I don't have much personal experience to share yet.

You take the supplement from ovulation until a few days into your period, or you can just take it all month if it's easier to remember.

So I got my first period after 25+ months, and it's awful. I've always had bad periods; it's just extra bad since I haven't had one in so long! And overall, I've only had a period for 7 months total in the past almost 4 years

I'm tempted to go back on the pill right away to get a little relieve! What else do you do? Pre period I got an awful headache, bad backache, and of course terrible cramps.
