In terms of exercise you can continue throughout pregnancy, I'm a great believer in walking! As part of managing my GD I've been trying to take two walks a day (only short but I've swallowed a basketball!) and I'm really enjoying them! I particularly like the walk I take once LO is in bed for the evening (it's Summer in NZ so it's nice and cool in the evening).

If I can't get to the gym, I try to find active household activities. This past week was shoveling/plowing the snow.

Fitbit! I have back problems and can't do a lot of exercises so I'm limited but I've lost 7lbs just upping my walking and cutting out a lot of carbs. I also like dance workouts like Zumba when I have time.

I'm in the same boat. I have started running again because I stopped when I hurt my back whole pregnant and then just never started up, but it's been slow goings lately. I feel like all I do is sit since dd isn't mobile yet.

As for exercise, if you make it a routine- be it kickboxing, barre, running, crossfit, and you're body is used to it before getting pregnant, you can still do it as long as you feel comfortable is my understanding. But like if you start kickboxing this month and then next month get pregnant, it might not be the best idea to push yourself with something that new. Obvs your doctor probably knows better and would be able to give an actual answer when the time comes though =)

I like doing barre classes (when I can afford it), going to the gym occasionally, and walking in addition to my regular running. I'm not a gym person, so I'm trying to push myself to go regularly. Even though it's chilly, could you load T up in the stroller and go for regular walks?

@Danizaur: I don't really know what it involves. If it had a lot of jumping, I know I couldn't do that while pregnant. Otherwise, I'd go for it, and then keep doing it as long as you feel comfortable. That's my pregnancy exercise policy, anyway.

The thing is, you can't rely on motivation to get you where you want to be. Motivation is fickle and it comes and goes. Discipline is what you have to commit to.

Sticker charts or a splurge night is what helps me. Once I fill out my sticker chart (thanks @autumnlove: for the idea) then I get a fun reward, a new outfit or something fun. I've been trying to improve gradually since cutting yourself of of all comforts just makes life suck.

Eating one really good meal a day, one convenience meal, and something in between along with a workout has helped a lot. I try to keep a calorie balance, but keep a splurge night a week to enjoy myself out. Also having a pedometer on my phone helps with smaller goals.

I also have memberships to local things like the zoo and aquarium and butterfly garden to get out and walking on workout days off. Usually I do 5 on with two off mixed in depending where my week is.

Chasing around 2 kids
taking them for a walk or to the park EVERY day the weather permits
kickboxing and muscle toning on the mornings I don't work.

I also think once T starts walking, you'll become more active. You'll be chasing him arund, and then you can start taking him to places like the park.

@Danizaur: Another thing I did that motivated me was I joined a Dietbet (Jillian Michaels was hosting one and there were tons of participants). Knowing that I had paid and would only get my money back if I lost the weight (it was a completely reasonable goal) was really motivating for me!

@Danizaur: if you need motivation I say go join a class somewhere with a friend to hold you accountable!

I have tried to do DVDs at home but when I get tired I stop - I mean, no one is watching, its just me!

I joined a gym and if you don't show they charge you $10 - sounds harsh but you can be sure it motivates me to go. I get am awesome work out because everyone is watching me - and I cant sit down when I am tired! lol

After I weaned last October I knew that I had to do something since I wasn't going to be burning those extra calories. So I joined a gym with daycare and do cardio and weights 3-4 times a weeks. DD loves daycare and as a bonus it makes working out a little break for me.

Is it motivation you have trouble with, or finding something you like?

I agree that barre is a great low impact workout. I think pure barre has online workouts you can stream as well.

I feel like being motivated to workout is half the battle. Is there a coworker you can go on walks with (or stairs) at lunch? Is there anyone that can hold you accountable to working out?

@Danizaur: Whatever you start and do pre-pregnancy, you can continue to do during pregnancy. You just have to know your body and know your limits and be smart about it. Don't do what hurts, take it easy, etc. True of any exercise. Hell, you can hurt yourself pretty bad doing yoga, so....

@Danizaur: I think the kickboxing that isn't safe may be like the one on one combat style, not necessarily the cardio class style...but maybe it's because someone could still accidentally kick you in the belly? Kickboxing (the class style) is definitely my favorite type of cardio class. I am not coordinated enough for the dancing classes (and feel self conscious the whole time!) but I really enjoyed the kickboxing ones. I plan to go back after this baby is born!

@blackbird: For physical activity....not much. I've never been an active person. Dancing and stuff intimidates me. When I was a teen I was a part of a fun baseball team with my coworkers. We played once a week and I loved it. I don't have anyone I know who would be interested in doing something like that. Nor is the weather appropriate right now.

@sarac: When I googled it it said it wasn't safe. I just assumed tht to be true. But you're right. I've heard people continuing to do crossfit and that's much more intense.

The biggest thing for me was wearing a fit bit and recognizing when I was having a low activity day. We go for lots of walks, even if we have to walk around Target or the mall, just to get moving. I do Jillian Michaels videos too...I like that they are only 20 minutes but because of the intensity cover strength and cardio all at once.
