Thanks, everyone! Well, it turned out that I wasn't even able to make it into work. I did a "drive around the block" test before officially calling off and was sliding everywhere. My tires are pretty much bald, so I'm sure that didn't help (getting new ones next week). But I just wasn't willing to risk it. :S

I have a bunch of samples of formula coming in now, though! Thanks again!

@ZombieBullfrogHoller: I'm so sorry you are going through this :( Its such a shame that jobs here in the US can be so un-accomodating for a nursing mother and child. How unfair right? I hope that since the weather report has already forecasted such bad conditions, that the snow trucks will be ready to get out there and plow!! (that's what happens here in chicago)

good luck and keep us posted!

I hope you made it home safely! I have no idea how the system works, I ditto asking ped offices for samples, though! Just for emergencies! Feeding your LO should not be your biggest concern in awful weather

@ZombieBullfrogHoller: I hope everything went ok last night. I read this last night but was thinking about it today. I received a whole bunch of formula samples for signing up for email lists and things like that. You should be able to do the same and then you have some on hand for emergencies and peace of mind.

I hope things went ok last night and you made it home no problem.

@ZombieBullfrogHoller: Sorry, I'm finding this thread late. Where in PA are you? I'm outside Philly and have at least one sample of formula in my pantry (LO gets exclusively breast milk as well) that you're welcome to if you need it. I'm just hoarding them until we reach a year and I know we don't need formula.

Weather here turned much nastier than anyone predicted. Hope you're keeping safe!

@ZombieBullfrogHoller: I'm very sorry you're dealing with all of this.

Can you squeeze in an extra pumping session or two before then to eek out another ounce or two? I've read pumping after a shower is a good time, because the shower relaxes you. Stay up later or get up earlier if you have to. I'd leave plenty of milk for LO and detailed instructions for MIL just in case. I'd also back an emergency bag for myself. Pump and all related supplies, food, water, toiletries, pjs, toothbrush. So if you do get stuck at the hotel, you're well prepared and not as miserable.

How far are you from work? How long of a drive and what are the roads like?

I personally would tell my manager that, with an infant at home, I'd need to leave to begin my drive home as soon as bad weather began. What is the forecast?

Can I just say how appreciative I am of all of you on this forum? For letting me vent, offering advice and suggestion and well wishes. When IRL I don't feel like anyone understands, it's nice to come on here and see that someone might and I'm not completely neurotic. <3

@blackbird: I'm going to discuss it with her and see if she might. We are on WIC and get checks for food for me - can I go back and forth like that?

Drive carefully but surely MIL has $5 to spare for a small container of formula as an emergency?

Are there any government benefits like WIC where you can have some food for your LO?

@Mae: I don't really live that far, comparatively. I imagine that's what I'll do. I've lived here long enough you would think I'd be use to driving in the snow! That way of thinking does make me feel better about that prospect, though, thanks! :)

I just hate this. I hate being in this position. I hate always feeling like a putz for trying to do what's best for my baby, in turn putting my job at risk, which in turn isn't what's best for baby. It's the worst catch 22 I could even imagine.

LO is just a couple days short of 4 months.

I have, literally, no money this week until we get paid Friday, so formula's out, even if I was comfortable with it. DH has to work tomorrow night, if he still has a job, so he wouldn't be able to come with me to work with baby even if my manager okayed it, which she wouldn't anyway.

I just pumped at work and, with that, I should have 10 oz for the night. That should last him in case of emergency, I hope. He's been waking up more frequently this past week. If MIL has to watch him over night she's going to have the worst time. I've never spent a night away from him, I don't think he'll be content for her for that long. @JoyfulKiwi: Yes, I think crying all night is a perfect prediction of what will happen if that occurs. x__x

I just drive anyways. Do you live exceptionally far from work? I mean living in a northern location does sort of mean bad weather in the winter and I guess I'm just used to it. I go very slow and am very careful of course, but I've never not gone home due to bad weather. I also try to keep in mind that when the roads are very bad the likelihood of actually being hurt in a crash is pretty low. Everyone is going slow and so fender benders/sliding off the road are more likely… but bad injury accidents happen when people are going like 50+ miles per home.

I'm so sorry! I really empathize with you because we also ebf, we also live in a place with scary weather, and I've never been able to build up a stash.

If you had to crash at the hotel at night, is there any way your husband and baby could join you?

Or if you stay at the hotel, could you put up with your baby getting a little formula, meanwhile you could pump and build up a stash for the next snowy night?

Hugs. Your situation is really tough and this winter is already so harsh...

You pump, yes? If it were me (and I would hate this 100%), I would make sure MIL had formula just in case. Just in case I couldn't get home. EBF isn't worth getting fired over. I would probably also cry all night if I got stuck there.

This situation sounds really tough. Hopefully someone else sees a better solution. Internet hugs, lady!

So, this month is just getting progressively worse. I've already posted about how I'm struggling with going back to work after baby (http://boards.hellobee.com/topic/just-a-ventrambly-rant-not-sure-how-to-handle-this) and I'm really having trouble balancing things.

Tomorrow I'm suppose to work until 11pm and they're forecasting snow and wintry mix/sleet/general nasty weather. I work at a hotel, so in the past if something like this kept me from getting home at night, I could just crash in a room. But LO is EBF and I can't leave him for the entire night with my MIL (husband works nights and will be dropping him off shortly before I get off for the night) with no milk. I'm agonizing and don't know what to do.

To make matters worse, DH and I are pretty sure, like 95% sure, his company is firing him shortly. So I'm afraid that calling off for "possibly bad weather" will put my job (where my hours are already being cut) in jeopardy. But I'm not getting new tires until next week and I have pretty much 0 tread on my current tires. I don't want to get stuck or die trying to get home. I'm a complete wimp when it comes to driving in snow to begin with.

What would you do if you were me? :|
