When all else fails, we go shopping. It's too hot here to go outside, so I pack him up and we go to Target or Home Depot and he falls asleep in his carseat in the cart or stroller. Works every time!

What do I do when my baby doesn't nap? Cry :)

But seriously, when LO wakes up early (which is every time) I give her 10-15 minutes to work it out. Sometimes she'll settle down and go back to sleep....If it's been between 2 and 3 hours since her last bottle, I'll try feeding her, otherwise I'll put her in her bouncy and bounce until she dozes off. It's not the best solution, but sometimes a nap with sleep props is better than no nap at all!

@winniebee: I vote go for a walk in the rain! Bring your umbrella and I think you'll both feel better after. :) For me, if his nap doesn't take (like 15 min) and I tried to put him back down and that didn't work, I count it as a nap and go on with the day until next nap time.

Holy cow. I let him play for 30 minutes and then at the 3 hour mark started the process again. Had to swing him/jiggle him in complete darkness for 20 minutes. 3.5 hours up and he is finally (supposedly) sleeping in his swing. That was a battle royale. I'd like to think it means he will catch up and sleep awhile, but I know better!

Well, the only thing that works for us is to take him out of the crib and try again in another half an hour, starting from the beginning of the routine. It's not perfect and I don't know if it will solve anything for the posters in this thread, but it works for us most of the time.

eta: my son was never a good sleeper, not even in the early sleepy newborn weeks, so I had to give up the dream really early of having an easy time with naps and night time sleep. that helped my mental state enormously!

Cry. Hah. I always try the "nurse to sleep and let him sleep in my lap or slightly readjust him to the crook of my arm. It works about 10% of the time.
If he needs sleep but you don't this one works for us 100% of the time. Go for a walk with Tyler in a carrier or stroller. Make it a long walk (1 hour).
ETA: I walk around the house and up/down the apartment stairs when it is raining. There are 40 steps from the corner of the master bedroom to the front door. I can do 1000 steps in about 10 minutes if I'm walking at prime "baby rocking" (slow) waddle.
Also... isn't 15 weeks a wonder week, too?

@Honeybee: Yep we had "hell week" from week 12-13, on the button. Eating constantly, crappy sleep, then started drinking more and outgrew clothes basically overnight. You are so right about that. I'm with you - I am an admitted control freak and need to remember what you said.

@winniebee: Did he already hit his 3 month growth spurt? Sometimes it's a little early or late.

The hardest part about parenting, to me, is the letting go aspect. (I don't want to sound like a control freak, but) I have a hard time remembering that the kids are individuals. Even from a young age, they make their own decisions and they have their own personalities. I struggle with accepting that, sometimes, but I know I have to let go and not take things personally. Hugs, you're a good mom, winniebee. Even though it's been tough lately, it'll get better.

When my LO is really fighting sleep and at the meltdown stage, I usually give in and just wear her in my baby k'tan. After 10 minutes or so, she's usually out like a light and I have at least an hour of freedom from a screaming baby.
But, I don't want her to get reliant on babywearing to be able to take a nap, so I try to only do it for "emergencies".

I find that when I disrupt his schedule even a bit it makes his naps shorter or non existent for the rest of the day.... I want him to be somewhat flexible though so aside from a few days a week where w stay home ALL day, I still take him out often enough. Will keep an eye on this thread, though!

I'm willing to bet that your little guy's sleep will improve once he recovers from his vacation! :) hang in there! :)

@Honeybee: My husband said the same thing, not about me, I know. But I feel bad for him too, because he's strung out! I think we are just off schedule since we were on vacation last week. Though, he is eating more the past few days. He's almost 16 weeks so I don't think it's growth spurt time?

I want to subscribe to this. My son still has this problem. We just started 1 nap a day and yesterday he slept for 40 minutes, screamed for over an hour, we decided to reboot and he eventually fell asleep on the floor next to my husband. Then about 10 minutes later the dog barked and it was all over. We got him up and just tried to put him to bed earlier.

Do you think he's going through a growth spurt? Crappy sleep is one of the biggest signs that my kids are growing. Just remember that this is about him, not you! As hard as it is, you can't let yourself feel guilty about things you have no control over. :)

I would let him be for 1/2 an hour and try again later. I've found that trying to force the issue usually makes them fight it harder.

T is having some sleep issues and lately none of my usual tricks are working. He was sooooo cranky so I put him down and he was out in his crib, but woke up 15 mins later and wouldn't go back down. Took a bottle and was so drowsy so I put him in his swing. I have counted 3 huge yawns now and he's still wide awake and babbling and smiling to himself now in his swing mirror. He's been up for 2.5 hours and his usual meltdown time is 2 hours. We can't go for a walk because it is pouring. I could go for a drive, I suppose that might help. Should I just unswaddle him, let him play, and try again in 30 minutes?

I just feel like such a bad mom in the sleep dept lately. It's like nothing I am doing is working. He has had awful naps and awful night sleep for the past week. Not for nothing but I'm exhausted, too.
