It depends how bad it is. We had one night my daughter was sleeping in her bed and she kept waking up so I was sleeping with her, and she threw up all over herself and me. It was everywhere, so I gave her a bath because it was disgusting and the smell was going to make it impossible for her to sleep. So, we put the sheets in the wash and then went to sleep in my bed. A couple hours later, she threw up all over that, but not as bad, so I just cleaned her up with wash clothes and changed her clothes, took off the sheets and covered the mattress with towels. Then she threw up AGAIN, but slept through it (which terrified me because I was afraid of her choking on her vomit in her sleep) and I woke her up, cleaned her up and then just rocked her in the rocking chair until morning. Then I put her on the couch with her dad, took a shower and went to work. Of course, she slept all day and she was totally fine by the time I got home from work, and full of energy, while I was exhausted from no sleep and dealing with her vomit all night. Talk about a LOOOOONG night followed by a long day.

Oh no, what's wrong with Charlie?

If I knew about the throw up, then I would clean everything up (probably no bath though). My LO has woken up maybe twice, due to illness, and I think I have waited a bit before putting her back to sleep. Maybe an hour or so until she was really tired again. During that time I would just be holding her/rocking her.

If he was awake, I'd clean him up and change the sheets.

If he was asleep, I'd probably leave him. We had an situation where he vomited in the night at some time but didn't call for us, so we had no idea until the morning. He managed to sleep on the other side of the crib. I felt terrible, but there was nothing to be done about it.

oh btw. Once when RJ was much younger and I was home alone, he threw up in his sleep and was still soundly sleeping and I was too terrified to go in there and clean him up. So I left him all night. I went to bed thinking child protective services would bust through my doors and take him away from the mother who would let their kid sleep in their own vomit all night.

I still feel immense guilt over that night. Poor baby. (but he really did sleep soundly the rest of the night!)

heehee. I would do a full cleanup and try to put them back to bed. Thankfully we haven't had to deal with this too much. And usually RJ will still be asleep so we'll "bathe" him with baby wipes, change his clothes, change his sheets, and put him back to bed and bathe him first thing in the morning.

I had a friend that would just move their child around to different places if they threw up and would also just give their child a bucket to throw up in. They would clean it up in the morning. I don't really recommend following this.

Ok crisis averted for now, Charlie fell asleep on the couch. I'll go clean up the vomit in the crib, and try to transfer him back to the crib when he's in a deeper sleep.

First of course, you clean up your LO and change their clothes. But then it's say, 11:11 pm and you have a tired kid who is wide awake but maybe still has the same cough that caused them to throw up.

Do you change the sheets and try and put them back to bed right away (in their crib, or perhaps somewhere else)? If there's some vomit in their hair, do you give them a bath? Or do you wait a while, and then put the LO back down after they're feeling better?

This is all completely hypothetical of course.
