@Andrea: Yuppers, I have the book. It is helpful but it is at those specific times when the baby shrieks and there is nothing I can do to stop it! And yeah, I am all about the mommy time out.

I agree, make sure nothing is wrong, and then give yourself a few minutes of time out.

@Rubies - have you read Dr. Karp's Happiest Baby on the Block? That really helped me when my daughter was an infant.

After I've checked every possible thing that could be wrong I put the baby in a safe place, like his swing, and put myself on a little timeout in another room.

If I can, I try to disassociate and go into troubleshooting mode! I have a seven step diagnostic I run to figure out why a baby is crying... I try to focus on that instead of on the incessant crying!

If that doesn't work, then I would do exactly what you just said above. I think that's what they tell you do in the "shaken baby" video we had to watch at the hospital!

Especially when I'm utterly exhausted, my LO's constant crying is enough to drive me crazy. I feel like I want to rip my ears off. So sometimes, I just drop her in her pack'n'play, shut the door and lay down on the couch for 15 minutes. After 15 minutes, I'll go back to her and usually I'm in a better frame of mind.

What do YOU do to help ease the insanity?
