popsicles!

When my kids are sick I can almost always get them to eat popsicles! Lack of Food isn't worrisome but they need to stay hydrated

So sorry you are going through this.... it is the worst when they don't eat!

There was a time LO had hand foot and mouth disease and we were actually abroad. He basically didn't eat for 3 days, just drank milk and water. And very rarely some cheerios :-(. We were away so there really wasn't much we could do, and the worst was we were always on the move (road trips)! He just slept and we let him drink when he asked for it... and he started eating at the end of the 3 days. There was another time when he had a stomach bug. He didn't feel like eating and I was concerned and tried everything to make him eat - then he started throwing up, which made it worse (because we then couldn't eat anything for hours and had diet restrictions after he resumed solid food). Sigh...

So I hate to say it, but if your LO is still drinking and producing wet diapers, don't worry too much yet and don't try to force him to eat or who knows, he may be really unwell if he eats anything more he'd start throwing up. There is a reason he is not willing to eat. Just make sure he is hydrated, and a few hours/days later he will start eating again and eats like a cow to make it up. Of course please use your best mommy instinct and judgement ! :) I hope he feels better soon!

I dont know why I never think of smoothies. We're just not a smoothie household, I guess. I'll give that a try tomorrow. Thanks, all!

I also agree with smoothie! Pack it full of nutrients--spinach, yogurt, hemp seeds, etc. Also, I've read that it's best to listen to your body re: food while sick. A lot of times it's the body's way of focusing on fighting the infection (to not want to expel energy on digestion). I'm no doctor, though, obviously!

Wish I could help, but unfortunately, we are going through a similar situation with our LO. He's been sick with an ear infection since Friday, and he's been eating almost nothing the last several days. Like the others have said, I've been trying to push liquids as much as possible. We've also been making him fruit smoothies, and he's been drinking those for extra nutrients. Hope your LO feels better asap!

We're dealing with an ear infection and what I think is thrush so LO is barely eating or drinking. She's still nursing and asking for it, so I've been indulging her to get some fluids in her. I keep smoothies, snacks and water nearby and she might take a sip. She definitely would rather sleep at this point.

Could it maybe be something like scarlet fever? That's going around in a big way where we are.

I generally just try and get her to eat as much as I can and really push liquids to keep her hydrated. Hope he gets feeling better!

D is sick. Wet cough, high temps, general fussiness. I took him to the ped on Thursday, and they did a test for flu and for RSV. Flu came back negative, but we don't have the RSV results yet. We're doing neb treatments every 4-6 hours. Initially he was eating and drinking ok, but yesterday and today he's not drinking a whole lot (still producing wet diapers) and he's barely eating. I've tried solids, purees, all of his favorites, and he eats a few bites and then just pushes everything away. Should I try pediasure? He'll still take bottles, so maybe formula? I have some packets of the Enfamil toddler formula. Any other suggestions?

ETA: He also has a new rash on his chest and back. Just little red pinpricks. It looks like heat rash to me, but should I be concerned?
