Given the circumstances I would take her to the doctor today. Normally I'd wait out a cough, but with a newborn entering the picture very soon, I'd be doing everything I could to get it under control pronto.

Our toddler was sick when we brought our baby home from hospital. We took him to ped, he had ear infections and bad cold. She gave him heavy duty shots in both legs and antibiotics because she was very concerned baby could get sick.

I stayed as far away from him as I could for about a week. Doctors said if I had to be close to wear a robe and then take it off when around the baby.

You stay hydrated, up your vitamins, wash your hands a lot... For her, make sure she's comfortable and then treat the cough. Somehow humidifiers are magic in our house. Especially if there are no other symptoms, running the humidifier at night and during naps gets rid of her cough in a few days and significantly reduces the length of any cold.

With our last cold we did the nose frida and saline. 3 drops of peroxide in the ears each day and homemade honey/ lemon/ olive oil cough syrup and motrin for discomfort. It worked really well for us to kick it quick!

ETA-emergen-c and peroxide drops in my ears along with the neti pot kept me from catching his cold despite day long snuggles!

Okay Bees, I'm freaking out a little. DD has yet another cough. Bad enough where she has trouble sleeping at night. We literally just got over this - it had turned into pneumonia requiring her 2nd round of antibiotics this winter. Luckily I am still feeling okay (knock on wood!) but my due date is TOMORROW! I've been having cramps all day and I'm terrified. Her last cough lasted 7 weeks! What should I do? Any super herbal remedies to get her better and keep me healthy?

I was really looking forward to them bonding and I'm scared that if I have to keep her away from the new baby it will create resentment and jealousy. I don't even think our hospital will allow her to visit if she has a cough because we have had such a horrific flu season here. I'm just really sad.
