I do exactly what I said I would never do and get her something else. She eats well but is skinny, I always feel like I need to fatten her up.

@Adira: well at least he eats them there. We can't get her to eat any, day care or home, except sweet potatoes, but like 1-2 times a week at the most. All depends on the night.
Girlfriend will eat mac n cheese every single night though.

I just give him a little extra of what he will eat from the meal. He's yet to refuse everything. Dinner usually is a main dish, veggie and fruit. If he won't eat the main dish he just gets a little more fruit or veggie. He's a good eater so I try not to sweat it. He's really into dipping stuff right now so often all it takes is a little sauce or ketchup and he loves it. His new favorite is broccoli dipped in ketchup. Gross.

@Smurfette: Seriously - Xander will eat pasta at daycare but not at home either! He also eats a variety of veggies at daycare, but will only eat carrots at home!

@illumina: I even gave her cheese ravoili last week, sauce on the side, in case she wanted to dip it, but she took one bite and wouldn't touch it cause she stuck her finger in the sauce and tasted some of it. So she ate sweet potatoes for dinner. Toddlers are weird.

At 13 months, I thikn what you're doing is fine! Or I woudl offer something else. I didn't start getting strict about meals until closer to 18 months. Now at 23 months, if he doesn't want to eat, he doesn't have to eat. And that's it

@Smurfette: what is it with spaghetti? That is what I just tried tonight and she flat out refused! This one is home made, but she often eats the Ella's Kitchen ones just fine :(

We let her get down, play, then when she wants something to eat we give it to her again. I will give her a pouch after bath, so she has something in her tummy before bed, but I don't give her another full dinner.

There have been a couple times, she just won't eat what we give her. I just now don't even try spaghetti, she won't touch it. I know she eats it at day care, but not worth the battle at home.

@illumina: we do the same thing you do. Let him play for a while, then out him back and most times he will eat. It doesn't matter if it's me or dh, I think he sometimes just isn't ready to eat.

I do pretty much the same thing (LO is 19 months). I usually don't offer him alternatives, but I already give him a wide variety of items. If he indicates he's still hungry later, I just give him whatever he didn't finish. He usually eats at least some of it eventually!

@jetsa: I feel like she's too young to go without too. What I was thinking of doing is just giving her a piece of plain toast with just butter on. Something I know she'll eat but isn't particularly interesting.

It happens about once a week that LO won't even touch what I made her for dinner...even if she ate it just fine the last time! What we do at the moment is I get her down from the table, let her play for a bit and then DH tries again maybe half an hour later when he finishes work and she eats it no problem :(

I get the feeling she's testing me or something...so I don't pressure her at all, I just say "okay, dinner is done". Only problem is that DH is away next week! What do you do?

She's almost 13 months and usually eats pretty well.
