DD is four months and mostly I spend time with her in her nursery letting her roll around with a few toys. I also sing and read books to her. The rest of the time I wear her while doing chores. It's way too cold here for outside activity right now. Infants get over stimulated easily, they don't need a lot of fancy activity everyday.

When she was younger she spent most of her time sleeping, nursing, watching her mobiles and being worn by me.

I'm still pregnant and wondering the same thing! My mom told me that when my brother and I were babies (I'm a twin), we'd just want to hear her voice, so she'd read to us. She wouldn't read OUR books, but HER books. She said she figured we should hear her voice and get read to in general, didn't matter what she was reading! :) Interestingly, we have the same taste in novels...

My mom used to tie a big nilar balloon to one of our feet and lay us on our backs and we would kick and see it move ......after about 10 mins she would switch it to the other leg and watch us figure it out :)

I have seen my sisters and they loved it :) I plan to do it with LO in a few weeks or so when she can make sense of it all.......

This is chaperoned 100% of course :)

We struggle with this too, my lo is just about twelve weeks. We do tons of books, play mat, baby wearing, bouncy seat and chatting while I cook etc. I hung a ribbon from the ceiling in her room and tie various toys from it for make shift mobiles, her favorite is a bell that she swats at or kicks.

I also found a blog written by an occupational therapist with tons of ideas that are fun and helpful even if you don't necessarily need help in a certain area. The baby posts are here: http://mamaot.com/category/infants-posts/

@LBee: DH took a pic of his face when he saw all the lights and fans at lowes and now has it as his desktop background. Lol it's so neat to see them light up over things that we think are so ordinary! :)

@erind425: @jhd: I think he would freak out if we took him to Lowe's. His baby mind would literally be blown. He also loves ceiling fans - he will stare at the one in our den for 30+ minutes.

@erind425: my mom does this all the time with LO wherever we are. He LOVES it. He has favorite things to see at her house and when we were on vacation he had a favorite picture that was hanging on the wall.
@LBee: our T is obsessed with lights too! And ceiling fans. We took him to Lowes one day and when we walked through the lighting section he was amazed!
@Meridian: I did everything you mentioned and also books. I'm keeping track of all the books we read in the 1000 books before kindergarten app because I like tracking things. Sometimes we go to the library just to change things up even though we have plenty to read at home. But that's not an option with the weather today!

@.twist.: We watched ALL of Grey's Anatomy together during my maternity leave. I figured it had a lot of "doctor" words and was good for him, haha.

@erind425: My husband takes T on house tours all the time - especially when he's fussy. He jokes that T's going to be an electrician because light fixtures fascinate him.

To answer OP's question - we would do tummy time, read books, play with toys. We would also go outside and look around some / took lots of walks. Honestly, things get a little more interesting once they start reaching and interacting a little more. My little guy is almost 5 months and can finally play in his jumperoo, chew on toys, etc.

I did a lot of talking and singing. I would also have "dance parties" and put on some fun music and hold her in my arms to dance. It got me up and moving and she loved the swinging around. If I got bored, or felt like I wasn't doing enough, sometimes I would check out a list like the one below for ideas.

Since about 8-9 weeks, my LO has loved going on a "tour" of the house. We look in all of the mirrors and I make funny faces (he LOVES mirrors), look at the different art/framed pictures around the house (I tell him who is in the pictures, point out colors, etc), look out the windows, etc. Over Christmas I'd point out the different ornaments. Things like that! It is my go-to "activity" for when he is fussy or when I can't think of something to do. The grandparents also love doing this when we go to their houses - I actually stole the idea from my dad when he was visiting during my maternity leave.

I would blow bubbles, he loved that.

Another thing I would do is to prop him up in the boppy and toss a little soft ball to his legs...he'd kick it back and kept him entertained for hours.

Mostly, I would narrate what I was doing, I felt like a loon talking to myself, but it made me feel like I was doing something productive. I was really "strict" and in hindsight, I don't think I really needed to be. I would have the TV off and I was very vigilant about not being on my phone or online during awake time. I probably could have relaxed that a lot.

I struggled with this a lot, too! After eating and tummy time I usually just kinda did my own thing around the house while talking to him. Like cleaning or interneting. We watched ALL of the Glee series together. Babies don't really care much. lol

My LO (12 weeks/7 weeks adjusted) is finally having a bit more awake time, about 30 mins in addition to eating. Right now I sometimes have music playing for him, put him on his activity mat, both on his back, and tummy time, talk to him, sing him songs... and then I'm out of ideas.

Is there anything else that you can do with an infant??
